Yet ANOTHER super busy weekend is in the books….this makes 3 in a row that I’ve basically been away all weekend.
This one was for a Friday-Sunday swim meet in Milwaukee. I took off early on Friday and headed out with Asher. We went straight to the pool so he could swim the 400 free (long course 50 meter pool. Summertime= long course season.)
We spent the rest of the weekend at my parents’ house, since it’s much closer than driving back and forth.
It was a nice weekend!! To be honest, I was not really in the mood to be “away” again….just so much stuff I want to do at home and really could use some down time. But, it was a really fun, enjoyable weekend, so, no regrets. 🙂
Asher swam the second session both days, so we didn’t have to be up early. The time not at the pool was all pretty low key. We slept in, hung out, Asher spent a bunch of time at the nearby skateboard park (he loves to go there whenever we are at my parents’ house- it’s just a block away). Watched a movie, got some dinner, etc. All was pretty chill and was a nice break. (Kind of- like I said, I have a lot of stuff to do at home. So, knowing this, I had a hard time turning my brain off completely and feeling 100% “relaxed”, but I tried and mostly succeeded.)

He loves this place.
Swim pics:
The meet itself was solid. He swam 9 races in total over the 3 days, and 6 of the 9 were personal best times. Not exactly the times he always wanted/ not as big of time drops as he would have liked, but decent.

He is in the 11-12 age group, obviously, but man. Some of these kids are HUGE. It is insane. It feels….unfair?!? Look at the size of the boys next to him. And yes, they are also TWLEVE. Says the kids’ ages right there on the heat sheet.

Blurry shot, but in the air….

Ah, well. What can you do. Size doesn’t always necessarily have an advantage in the long term, but at this point, it’s pretty tough to compete with the strength and power of those big boys.
New Travel page!!
My parents were at the meet Saturday/Sunday, but I was there alone Friday night. So, while he warmed up, other kids’ races went, etc., I had some time to kill. I brought my laptop along while I sat in the bleachers.
I put together a new TRAVEL page for my blog!! I wanted a place to compile all my travel recaps in one, easy to find section. They are now all listed in chronological order, with links directly to each post, labeled and sorted by year and trip.
They don’t go back too far (I only started the blog in April 2020). But every trip recap I’ve written since that point is listed there!
I’m excited to have a nice, clean place to store these. It will make it simple for me to look back on them/ find them, too.
You can find it in my website’s menu (Travel) or click here.
Daily Gratitude:
I am grateful for some hot weather moving back in. Weather has been cool and not summer-like the last week or so. It has been a bit of a bummer- hasn’t felt like summer. So I’m grateful for some nice summery weather coming back!!
Wow, those other kids are HUGE!! We have kids on both ends of the spectrum in my family. One of my nephews has always been so big for his age from a young age. And then Paul is on the other end of the spectrum and is so teeny tiny, he already looks small compared to this classmates at school at age 4. It is hard to compete with such big, muscular kids!!
I haven’t been gone back-to-back weekends in the longest time. It is hard to be gone that often as you can quickly fall behind on grocery shopping, meal prep, etc. Hopefully you have a quieter break ahead?? We will be gone this weekend but Monday is a holiday for Juneteenth. So even though we have the day off, we will come back from the lake on Saturday or Sunday depending on how poorly Will sleeps so will have 1-2 days to get groceries, do laundry, etc.

size does matter especially at their age! Good job that he’s not intimated. Love the new travel age, I need to do that too. it takes time to organize them, but it’s so much easier to get back to it in the future.

I’m still feeling restless as we prepare for another big trip away…so many loose ends and I’m having a hard time settling in to the fun moments happening now because my mind is thinking about all the things I need to do…most of which I CAN’T ACTUALLY DO YET because for big trips everything seems to have to happen at the last minute.
I’m glad you all had a nice time away, though, and I’m sure all those home to-do’s will get done eventually! And that’s great news about the Travel page; I’m headed there now because I wanted to check out a few things from your east coast trip! Perfect timing 🙂

Great pictures of your Asher, both at the park and the pool! It sounds like a good weekend, although I understand it’s hard to be “away” for three weekends in a row. I wouldn’t like it one bit either.
Love that you put together a travel page, makes finding stuff easier (I am in the process of thinking about some changes with my blog…. reorganization is one of the things, changing blog hosts another… I’ve been having issues with mine (even though I don’t think visitors have been affected (yet)?!
