Happy Sunday! I ended up having a pretty great Saturday, after some plans shifted and my day unexpectedly opened up.
The morning was fairly lazy but included checking off a couple more months worth of photo organization. Still chugging along on this photo project.
Ethan and I cleaned out his closet. It badly needed it and had been bugging me for a long time. We did get interrupted…about 15 minutes in a bunch of his friends showed up on bikes, announcing a kick ball game was about to take place. His room looked like this at the moment (plus more, not shown):
But it made my heart happy to hear the excited shouts of all those kids out the window, so I shooed both boys outside and we finished the closet later. 🙂 Closets can wait.
I made some oatmeal raisin cookies, too. MMMM they are so good. I always forget about oatmeal raisin. I love them! Why do I not make them more often?? Easy, too.
The evening brought the highlight of the day. We finally joined the rest of the modern world and watched Hamilton!! omg. I had wanted to for so long, but I don’t know, we just never put it on! We loved it.
I am always just blown away with Broadway performances in general. The artistry, the talent, the music, the staging…I seriously don’t know how they do it.
And this show is just exceptional for so many reasons. WOW WOW WOW. (If you are unaware, this is the story of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of the United States. But it is a history story like never before!) The creative twist on this is just genius, the cast is unreal…so good. Loved it. Would be amazing to see it live!! But I’m at least grateful for the Disney+ streaming option.
The boys were a little hit or miss on it. Asher said he couldn’t understand all of the lyrics (which, I get. The hip hop style was actually a little challenging for me, too, in some parts. It is pretty quick.) They watched, but were kind of in and out a bit. Oh well. I tried to give a little back story AND reminded them that we actually saw Alexander Hamilton’s grave in New York a couple years ago…

I love the play on words in the drinking scene, plus of course the overall greater meaning of “his shot”/ opportunity. This is such a cool mantra, too. Seize the moment! I am grateful for the slightly gloomy day yesterday. It felt nice to stay in, bake, clean, watch movies, etc. I had the window open and it just drizzled on and off, too. Felt cozy.

I love oatmeal raisin cookies too, they not only taste great, but makes the house smell amazing. I watched Hamilton on Disney+ a few months ago and agree that it is pure genius. Would love to see it in the theater. However, it is very long and have adult topics so I can imagine a lot of kids would not be engaged that long (I mean, my husband also cannot wrap his head around it.) “I’m not throwing away my shot” is also now engraved in my brain. Even when I read your blog’s title, it came out in rap form! I found it interesting as well that the actor who plays King George III played Kristoff in frozen. He’s quite a singer!

I did not know that about Kristoff!! I’m planning to watch it again sometime. My sister recommended turning the subtitles on to help catch all of the lyrics in some of those rappy sections- I think that would help! I’ll have to pay attention to King George’s voice to compare to Kristoff’s, too. 🙂

Hey! I had no idea Hamilton was based on anything or anyone – and I have never heard of Alexander Hamilton. I am British, though. I’ve never watched it but I should – A adores musicals! We’ve been to London a few times to see Aladdin and The Lion King and it’s always amazing.
Nice relaxed weekend here. We went to the caravan and chilled out. I even had a nap yesterday!

I laughed out loud when I saw this title. We saw Hamilton on Disney + over the summer, and loved it, but the biggest Hamilton fan in the family is Avi. For whatever reason, she is obsessed with the sound track. She requests listening to “Hamil” all the time, and I think Joel and I can recite the first ten tracks by heart.

I have not seen Hamilton but would really like to. We don’t have Disney+ but a friend offered to let us watch it on her account. I just haven’t taken her up on it! I think I will really like it!
Closet cleaning projects are always so much work but sooo satisfying! I kind of did this recently as I went through all my pre-baby clothes to figure out what fit (not much – sob) and moved out maternity stuff, etc. It felt pretty good – aside from not loving how things fit, but I was not able to lose the last of my baby weight until I stopped pumping with Paul so I think it will be the same story w/ Will. And I remind myself it’s temporary and I’m almost at the 1/2 mark (goal is 1 year of BF’ing, but will reassess this summer and decide if I can make it a year or not w/ my RA not being great). That was a good call to let Ethan play with his friends. After a year of not being able to do things like that as easily, I bet it feels soooo good for him to be able to play pick up games with friends again!
