The kids crossing the field together. ๐ So beautiful.
Like I mentioned, we took a little road trip yesterday to visit our old neighbors who moved away in August, out into the country 2 hours north of us. The boys and the little girl grew up together, and were best of friends. The tres amigos hadn’t seen each other since August 7 when they left.
I had chatted with the mom and we hashed up a little plan for us to SURPRISE their daughter with a visit! The boys were so excited about being in on this element of surprise. We decided we’d arrive a little before she got home from school, and the boys would be bouncing on the trampoline when she pulled in the driveway (the kids used to spend hours on the trampoline together, so it kind of has a special symbolic meaning. ๐
She was shocked and a little overwhelmed, which made the boys laugh gleefully. SUCCESS!! Lol!
They fit right back together as if no time had passed at all, and they had the most magical day. (I did, too!) The drive up was absolutely stunning. The colors must be really approaching peak now- we saw the most gorgeous reds and gold colors the whole way.
The rest of the day was filled with outdoor, farm/ country fun…a very different life than they are used to, but RIGHT up their alley. They. were. in. heaven.
They got to meet her new animal friends:

Shoot things:
Ride dirt bikes and ATVs:
(Ethan)

Climb on hay bales and pick pumpkins:

And snuggle more with the animals:
Seriously, have you ever seen anything cuter?!
After a yummy picnic dinner of barbecue sandwiches, we ended the night with a bonfire, freshly popped popcorn and checking out Saturn’s moons on her Grandpa’s telescope! He even shot off some fireworks in the field as a send off….which was a huge hit! ๐
Kind of wanted to smuggle this little goat into my van and bring him home. They were sooooo sweet!! Like lap dogs!
We didn’t get home until after 11 pm…the boys crashed from exhaustion the second we hit the road and slept the whole way home. The first thing they said as we drove away was, “When can we go back?!” ๐ It was really a perfect day for them!
I’m so happy it worked out. It made me a little sad all over again, but seeing them together was so sweet. (The beautiful views and the peacefulness there also kind of made me wish I could move to the country!!)
Bonus pic of me laughing on a hay bale, also apparently having a good time (LOL!):
(Sorry for such a photo heavy post!! Everywhere I turned there was either something beautiful, special or adorable to take a picture of!)
Daily Gratitude:
I am just grateful for the whole day yesterday! Seeing the boys’ huge smiles and enjoying the country air with their friend….so priceless! ๐๐๐๐
what a fun trip and stunning pics! it's so nice to show our gratitude and give back to our friends and kids, the most rewarding feeling ever! reunions are always the best but i can imagine a bit of sadness at the end of it. It makes us enjoy the moment more, right?
