Interrupting your regularly scheduled programming…

for a real time update.

I still have 2 days left to recap from the Nova Scotia trip (well, 1 full day plus our departure day, which still included some fun bits!), but that is not happening today.

I do have a couple minutes though, so I thought I’d just pop on quickly for a brief “real time” check in.

Things have been so busy since I got home late Monday night!! I requested to actually flex my time this week so instead of using PTO for my Monday off, I am working the full 40 hours in the remaining 4 days. I have a lot on my work plate right now, so I honestly needed the extra work time anyway, and I also wanted to bank a vacation day. We have some sort of unexpected travel coming up (as in, not planned way earlier in the year when I did my original sketching out of my vacation days), so I can use the buffer.

However, this has meant I’ve been starting earlier, taking fewer breaks/ a much shorter lunch and working later all week! I did manage to get unpacked, but workouts haven’t really happened, nor much of anything else “home admin” wise.

Tuesday night Ethan had a far away soccer game, so after getting home late Monday from Nova Scotia, I basically worked all day Tuesday and then went to soccer, arriving home at 10 pm.

Wednesday was just work all day + a 6 pm volleyball game (and some quick intermittent Asher drop offs/ pick ups). The volleyball ladies asked if I wanted to get drinks after the game and I was like no! I really just wanted to get home.

Yesterday I worked all day, squeezed in the quickest of all workouts (literally a 10 min Upper Body YouTube video + 10 min Abs), and then Ivan and I went out for Mexican food and to sort of watch the very sad Brewers game while Asher was at swim.

Today is my BIRTHDAY 🥳 and my parents are coming later. I think we’ll (gasp!) switch it up from our usual Mexican (in part why we went last night…we “pre-partied”, lol) and eat somewhere else tonight. Asher is going to the Homecoming football game, though, so he can’t join us. (I mean, I could have made him skip the game and come, but honestly #42 is not a “big birthday” per se, and I would truly rather he go enjoy the Homecoming game. You only get one set of high school years!)

I have fit in (short, ~10 min) Charlie walks this week because he gets antsy and lets us know that he wants to go walk if we don’t.

The park by our house has pretty leaves! The big tree in our yard, however, is always SO LATE to the party. It’s literally full on green, and not a single leaf has dropped.

I’ve also apparently found the time to gather a little collection of memes this week. LOL! Elisabeth and I are kindred spirits in that we both love silly memes. I know they are not for everyone, but it warms my heart to have a friend who enjoys this humor equally and it brings great joy to my life to frequently exchange them with her via text!

(My best work friend and I are also ALL about the .gif responses on Microsoft Teams and I have to say, they can be a real bright spot in an otherwise grey day. 😅Sometimes gifs just nail annoying/ funny/ exasperating work situations in a way words cannot…. )

HA!

Ok, back to work! Happy Friday and I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Come back soon for the final installment of my Nova Scotia recaps!! Sunday was a day you don’t want to miss. 😉

*A birthday request! In honor of my birthday, I have a question! I’m not much of one to follow analytics or anything, but I’d love to hear: Which type of blog posts of mine are your favorites? Drop me a comment and let me know!

a. totally random/ daily happenings/ misc. everyday life

b. travel posts

c. goals or other productivity related stuff (planning, task management, etc.)

d. weekend recaps or other family/kid event recaps

e. monthly recaps

f. workout or nutrition content

g. deep thoughts or inspirational content

h. other (fill in the blank!)

(Just pulled this list out of thin air, lol, so probably not comprehensive!) I’m just curious to hear from you! (I won’t suggest that I will actually change any blogging habits as a result of this highly informal poll, because I’m not an “organized blogger” and I tend to fly by the seat of my pants here, but I would love to know.)

*Attempting to insert a poll, no idea if this will actually work!

Daily Gratitude:

I am grateful for my trip to Nova Scotia! It was AMAZING.

  2. Happy birthday! I enjoy all posts and have benefited from your travel recaps. We are in Moab right now and did some things based off your recs. We went canyoneering and I don’t know if I would’ve done it without your description so thank you. Def a highlight of the trip for all of us.

  3. Happy birthday, Kae! I truly enjoy all your posts. Obviously, you know I especially cherish the travel ones because you and I have similar travel “styles” and your kids are a few years older than mine. But I also LOVE the random ones, the workout ones (team strength training over here too!), and I’ve been loving the monthly recaps too.

  4. I love memes! My favorite is the one about leaving the house. It is so accurate in our house. I also love using gifs in team chats at work. It makes things a little more fun and entertaining!

Happy birthday! I hope you are having a fun dinner out as I type this! I love the fall colors so much – I take so many pictures of trees on walks. We are behind where we would usually be in terms of leaves falling. Usually we would be raking lead piles this weekend (it’s fall break this week so I strongly associate raking with Paul having days off school). But it is not time to rake yet. I mean my flowering baskets are still up and blooming!

  5. Happy Birthday, Kae! I love your blog! I’m not much younger than you but am in a very different phase of parenting (my kiddo is 2). I love reading about your life and your family’s adventures. I really do like your posts about planning topics… and any time you include your sweet pup.

  6. I’m late commenting, so happy belated birthday! Honestly… I couldn’t choose my favorite of your posts. Somehow you manage to make EVERYTHING interesting- whether it’s random life events, travel recaps, inspirational posts… I like it all. You have a writing style that’s casual and conversational, while also being clear and cohesive. And, I appreciate your humor. Speaking of which… hahaha on those memes.
