This has been a pretty swim dominated weekend so far.
Friday night Asher and I attended the high school swim meet. His best swim friend is a year older and already in high school, so we went to watch him swim. It made Asher very excited to do HS swim next year!! There is a ton of camaraderie between the boys on the school team- lots of cheering for each other, etc.
(Side note: We just made a definitive decision this past week that Asher will indeed attend the local public high school (versus the private high school Ethan attends). We absolutely love Ethan’s school, so I am slightly sad about this. Asher really wanted to go to the public school though, primarily driven by his desire to swim and play soccer in high school with his local friends. This school is still very strong academically and I have no doubt Asher will thrive wherever he is.)
Then we’ve had his meet all weekend.
Ethan volunteered at the concessions stand from 7-1 yesterday! He needs 100 volunteer service hours in order to graduate from high school, so I hooked him up with a couple shifts.
I worked the Volunteer Check-In table from 11-3.
Asher swam in prelims midday, then we went home for a break before being back at 5 pm for Finals.

Got home from finals at like 8:30/9 pm.. and then had to be back at the pool by 7:20 am today for Asher’s Sunday morning session. Phew! He’s almost done now… I’m typing this with just one event to go.
Christmas Challenge update:
Friday, Day 3: Do yoga or stretch in the dark by Christmas light.
✅
Did this in my office early in the morning. I found a random Christmas YouTube video which was perfect. 20 minutes and it had quiet Christmas music playing in the background.

Most of it was my style until the girl instructed us to “go ahead and ease into the splits position”.
Um.
I couldn’t do the splits if my life literally depended on it. I am still disappointed with how inflexible I am. Then again, I have not been actively working on this, so I guess what do I expect??

Saturday, Day 4: Bake Christmas cookies.
✅

I made a double batch for our Christmas thing tonight and that’s it. Didn’t have a ton of time before the swim meet stuff yesterday so did this in the morning and then called it good!
I also went for a 3 mile run between Prelims and Finals, in the afternoon:

40 degrees and rain. Felt pretty good though!
And Charlie bear had a busy afternoon nibbling on his Christmas toys. 😊

Today’s challenge is an easy one to cross off, since we are hosting a Christmas gathering with Ivan’s local family members. Everyone is bringing something and it should be low key. I wrapped all the gifts earlier this week.
One week til Christmas! This time next week I’ll hopefully be on an airplane.
Daily Gratitude:
I am grateful for the new swim team joggers Asher bought me for my birthday. Very comfy and they have the team name down the thigh. 🙂

This weekend is so grim! Grey and rainy! What better use of a sad weekend in December than to knock out those volunteer hours.

So good to have those big decisions squared away and feeling good about them. We had a lovely weekend, hosted a little drop in party this am, which was nice. I always get nervous before people arrive but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and were busy chatting. Our house is only 1000 square feet but we can get 20 in a pretty cozy, comfortable way.
We always make Mexican wedding cookies for Santa… which aren’t great Santa cookies as they leave evidence but they are delicious!

I agree that it would be better for Asher to continue with his friends and sports. At this age, they are so attached to their friendship.
I need to stretch more too, I try to find a routine to stretch everyday even when I don’t run. it helps to calm my mind as well as to stretch the body.
excited about your Mexico trip.

I’m dying…”just ease into it”…ha ha now we can all do the splits.
Yay that your boys will go to the school that suits each of them best. Our boys went to the same school through high school but now that the oldest is in college and the youngest is doing a career track in high school so he’s doing something that’s totally different from his older brother’s experience at the same age. It’s fun to hear them get each other up to speed on their totally different lives. I think the youngest likes having his own thing where he’s his own person and not just “oh you’re that guy’s brother”.

Hahahaha…. I couldn’t do the splits even if I worked on it every day until the day I die. I really think it’s partially a genetic thing, and some people are born more flexible than others. ALSO, there’s absolutely no reason in the entire world why we need to do the splits- it won’t make you a better runner, or better at lifting weights- no one NEEDS to be that flexible. So don’t stress about it!
Other than that it sounds like a lovely yoga session. And I made cookies similar to those last week, except, mine also had peppermint in them. Other than that they were probably the same.
I think it’s great that Asher has such good friends and things he wants to focus on in high school. Yes, it would have been nice to have the boys at the same school! Of course I wouldn’t know… my kids are six years apart so they never attended the same school at the same time.
I hope the gathering was fun!

So excited for Asher! And have a great trip!

That is a little strange that a 20 minute video, which I would categorize as probably more beginner (?) would have the splits as one of the things! I have never been able to do the splits, even when I was flexible, but definitely now these old bones can barely touch our toes!

Hahaha, unless you’re a ballerina and it’s your job, how does one “ease into a split”?? LOL That’s hilarious. I hope you lay on your mat chuckling 😉
