1st CC meet and TGIF

T to the G to the I to the F.

This kinda felt like the longest short week ever! Pretty sure that my terrible night of sleep on Tuesday just really kickstarted it to be a bit rough. Plus it’s just been a really full bunch of days.

But the week has definitely been on a persistent uptick since then! Both Wednesday and Thursday were good days. And FRIDAY will be too (I am predicting this/ calling it now, at 6:32 a.m. 🙂 ).

Asher’s 1st Cross Country meet!

Last night was Asher’s first official cross country meet. Wow! It was in another town about 25 minutes away, and as I followed the GPS directions to the golf course where it was being held, I said, “Gosh, look at all these cars!” They were lined for blocks in all directions it seemed.

Turns out, there were something like 15 teams in attendance! It was the real deal. (For some reason I had it in my head that it was just going to be a small “dual” meet- their small team vs one other. Not sure where I got that from.)

It was super cool! I never ran cross country, and although my sister did in high school, I sheepishly realized last night that I don’t think I ever attended a single one of her meets! Whoops. Sorry, sister. 😬 Apparently I was too busy being 15 at the time.

The starting line for the boys

There was definite excitement in the air with lots of people and tents and coaches milling around.

Asher did great!!! I’m really so impressed with him right now. I’ve mentioned before, he always seemed to semi-hate running in the past. And never seemed particularly good at it, either. But he’s really turned a corner! He’s looking so strong and seems to be really ENJOYING it too, which is key.

The whole thing was really fun. He loved it. His friends did awesome, too. And, compared to sitting at a 5 hour long swim meet, a quick 2 mile race was a dream from a parent’s perspective. 😄 (Just kidding…swim meets are great, too. But they definitely take a lot longer…..).

I do not see him hanging up his swim jammers in favor of ONLY running shoes any time soon, but I’m so happy that he is: a) experiencing a school sport’s team for the first time!, b) finding enjoyment and satisfaction in something new, and c) pushing himself with a new challenge!

The busy little bee….when we got home from the race around 7:00, he barely had time to change before he headed off to SWIM practice for 75 minutes from 7:45-9!! I don’t know how he did it, but he did. Hopefully he shouldn’t have too many nights where he has to double up like that. (And CC is a relatively short season overall, too, just into early October.)

It was a beautiful night on the golf course (cross country course).

Thought of the Day:

A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.

Daily Gratitude:

I am grateful for garbage cans, like this little one in my office that I constantly toss tea bag wrappers and little papers into all day long. 🙂

  1. Way to go Asher! So glad he is enjoying CC! We did not have that as an option in my dinky small town. My sister and I both would have been interested in it. So I am glad my kids will have way more extracurricular options available to them! That is a full night for him, though. He must have been soooo hungry afterwards? He is going to be one lean, mean machine!!

So in our house, TGIF is not a phrase we use anymore. (covers face) We are kind of in the TGIM stage of life… Love love love my kids, but the weekends are really exhausting. More exhausting than the work weeks honestly. I think it will hopefully get a bit better when Paul turns 4 (please, God, let that be the case?). We have some fun plans this weekend, though. Tomorrow night is a block party and a firetruck is coming so that will blow Paul’s mind! And then on Sunday I’m doing a playdate with a friend and her 2 kids. Her husband had heart surgery this summer to fix an issue with his valve so she is basically a solo parent these days while he recovers! So we are going over to their house since they have a big yard and a swing set. Hopefully the boys play well so we can catch up! She also has a little girl who is almost 2 so has her hands very very full!
