Ivan had to go into work for a bit this morning and then stopped by his cousin’s house to see his aunt and uncle (who are flying back to Mexico tomorrow), so I had most of the day to myself today. Indeed, as much as I love my husband, I also really love days to myself, too. 😉
I cannot claim to have spent it in the most exciting of ways, but that’s fine. Things have been busy, and I was in need of an open weekend and a little “life re-set”.
After posting about my grocery dilemma, I decided that I will trial shopping on Saturday mornings for a while.
I put a reminder on my calendar to clean out the fridge on Thursday, so that was off the weekend list. This morning, I did a quick fridge and pantry inventory and then made a meal plan for the week. I tried to be efficient, but not rushed, but also not dilly dally.
I headed out around 9. (Our Aldi actually opens at 8:30, but I was enjoying my morning and then wanted to shower. I decided I didn’t need to be there right when they open- in fact, someone commented and said if you go after that initial opening rush, it’s actually less crowded.)
I was VERY PLEASED with what I found today!!! Definitely significantly less crowded compared to the afternoon on either Saturday or Sunday. Because I’m a little nuts, I decided to time myself. Hehe. With the stopwatch and lap feature on my phone.
I only spent about 15 minutes inside Aldi, then 3 minutes loading the groceries and driving across the parking lot to Woodman’s (the big- no, HUGE- store that has “everything”). I spent another 25 minutes in there, in part due to the self-checkout being finnicky, and in part just because the store is huge, so no matter what, it takes a long time just to even walk from one end to the other. I didn’t have really big list for either store this week. All in all, 45 minutes. For me, this is super fast!!
Of course, I still had to drive home (~7 minutes?), unload (by myself, since no one else was home), and put the groceries away (10 minutes?). It wasn’t zero time, obviously, but I was pretty thrilled to be home and have groceries BOUGHT for the week, a clean fridge, and everything put away by around 10 a.m. on Saturday. 🎉🎉
I think, schedule permitting, I’m going to try this for a while!
I spent the next couple hours cleaning the main part of the house (kitchen, living room and sunroom). I know, I really seize the moment when I’m alone.
But it needed it and I was even more excited when that was done too and now not only did I have all the groceries, I had a nice, clean house, too! By noon or so!!
My mom swung by (I had texted that if she was out and about, she should stop by as Ivan was gone and I was just cleaning, etc…and by this time, the boys were both home). We chatted and the kids did too while I finished cleaning.
I had some quiet afternoon time while Ethan cut the grass (aka, chopped up a bunch of leaves…) and Asher left to go golfing. He had lifeguarded already in the morning. I got a few other things done, did some Q5 and November planning, and then even read my book for a bit in the sunroom. The nice, clean sunroom. 😉
I went to the gym at 4:00 to do 25 minutes on the elliptical (blerg, I’m never gonna be a cardio fan…but I did it…), and then thoroughly enjoyed a Body Balance class (mix of stretching, yoga, pilates type class) at 4:30. (I did one of the Big Screen classes that is just a big TV in the studio, and I was the only one there, which is my favorite!)
Came home and Ivan, Asher and I just ate some shredded guajillo pepper chuck roast that I’d had in the oven all afternoon, in corn tortillas with refried beans and a delicious onion/ habanero pepper/ lime mix on top. (Ethan is working tonight from 3-9.)
It’s been a good day! Probably will head out to walk Charlie soon and then watch a show or movie or something with Ivan. 🙂
I have no fun pics to accompany this post, and I can’t post a post without a photo! 🤪, so here’s the pic I sent my mom this morning. She got me this new Wisconsin sweatshirt as part of my birthday gift, and I wore it to run errands today. 🙂

I hope you’re having a good weekend, too. 🙂
Daily Gratitude:
I am grateful for the Body Balance class. I’ve been trying to do it once a week, at least, and I really, really love it! It feels so great.
