Goals

May goals -> June goals

May goals review:

I already did my big May Recap post, so I already addressed a lot of these. This post is “not necessary” BUT I set a lot of goals for May, so I want to look at them specifically to see how I did.

I’m going to use the following key:

✅= complete (at least 90%)

🟡= sort of/ there are caveats….

➡️= migrating to next month

⛔= nope

Health:

  • ✅100% compliance on my workout plan!
  • ✅eat protein at every meal
  • 🟡8,000 steps daily (have not been wearing my Apple watch! Not sure why but I’m just not feeling it right now, so I’m not. I know I didn’t hit 8,000 steps every day but I did try to walk at least 2x/day (my shortest loop is only ~10 min).
  • ✅re-start using my tube of Retin-A

Fun/Family:

  • ⛔schedule weekly fun time with the boys. 😏(thank goodness for family vacay coming up soon…)
  • ✅take Charlie on a walk somewhere new (walked him to downtown Sun Prairie)
  • ✅go to Prairie Pages (new local bookstore)
  • ✅walk to coffee shop within walking distance of my house to work (did with my mom!)
  • ✅watch another episode of El Rey on Netflix (in Spanish). (We’ve now watched 6!)
  • ⛔Discuss ideas/plans for Ethan’s upcoming 18th birthday in July?!
  • ✅ see the Michael Jackson movie
  • 🟡Listen to all the Garth Brooks records before concert in June. (I don’t have Spotify/ apple music so this wasn’t well thought out. His full albums don’t seem available on YouTube etc either. I listed to the Garth Brooks station on my (free) Pandora account a few times, but that was it. I still have a week…
  • ✅Schedule Ethan’s senior pictures!
  • ➡️Decide on other college visits with Ethan? Still talking about this, but during June with tennis State and then vacation it’s not going to happen.
  • ✅Prom needs for Asher? (He mostly handled this himself, and prom is over.)
  • ➡️Start the passport renewal process for the boys. (We looked into the requirements but will probably officially do this in July)

Self-Care:

  • ⛔Read the Bible 8x this month.
  • ✅go to church 1x.
  • 🟡face/floss before bed. (I did this, but I don’t think I hit 90%.)
  • ✅read in the sunroom at least 4x. (Not sure if I always read in the sunroom, but I spent A LOT of time in the sunroom this month. Often doing email, personal admin, blog stuff, etc. But I enjoyed the sunroom nonetheless.
  • 🟡read Nicole’s book! (in process!)
  • ➡️order a new piano book. (I did look at books in May and found a couple I’m interested in. Going to move this to July though bc I won’t have much time in June anyway.)

Household:

  • ✅do my April photo cleanout
  • ✅catch up on Monarch. Done! And have been maintaining. Checking in on it for just 1-2 minutes daily is SO much easier!
  • ⛔find hardware for the bathroom! Argh.
  • ✅tackle a few more decluttering tasks (did big kitchen closet plus 1 kitchen cabinet and under the boys’ bathroom sink)
  • ➡️schedule Asher’s Mexican citizenship process. Not yet but need to do so migrating.
  • ✅final itinerary planning for Zion + Vegas trip. Done!
  • ✅help my mom finish her Storyworth and order the books.
  • ➡️spring hot tub drain and refill. Not done yet!
  • 🟡talk to Ivan about yard/ landscaping refresh plan. We have talked loosely about it but have not developed any concrete action plans yet…
  • ➡️get rid of old glider. (I just posted it yesterday)
  • ✅get birthday gifts for my nieces
  • 🟡any clothing needs for trip? (I had Ethan try on his hiking shoes which DO still fit, yay! Asher has yet to try his on… 😐 Ethan also really needs a new pair of Birks. I am not planning to buy ANYTHING for this trip for myself. I have plenty and no pressing needs!
  • ✅spring yard stuff- get patio furniture out, plant flowers, clean out side of shed (joint effort on this one from boys/Ivan)
  • ✅buy plane tickets to Vegas!

You guys, I DID GOOD!! I mean, I totally didn’t hit them all, but considering the number of goals I set!?! I think I did a lot.

June Goals

I did some June planning, but I feel like I really just wrapped it up the other day and now it’s already June 9th. This weekend Ethan has State tennis, I go to Garth Brooks next Tuesday, and then we fly out next Friday, not returning until the 29th. And then the month is basically over.

In this next week I need to do some usual pre-vacation things (hopefully pack on Sunday, maybe? and an errand or two). I don’t think I’ll have much margin before we leave for much ambitious work on random goals.

I also had a lot of things I want to just either keep doing more generally “this summer” or need to migrate forward.

Some June goals:

  • keep going on my Health goals (protein, same workout routine, face/floss/Tretinoin, walk regularly)
  • keep doing crossword puzzles in down time! 🙂
  • talk with Ethan about his senior pics location and clothes
  • bake lemon bars
  • start an actual “restaurants we want to try” list
  • make a list of a few fun Madison things we want to do this year
  • help support my parents’ move however I can!
  • no buying more groceries before our trip (except basics like milk/ fresh fruit). Otherwise doing a pantry/ freezer challenge! *I so often accidentally overbuy in the week or two before vacation and it’s just DUMB and such a waste.)
  • Cut way back on buying iced tea from the gas station. (When I quit soda 50 days ago now!! I started buying a fountain iced tea every day from the gas station as a “crutch” to distract me from soda. (I previously bought a fountain soda most days.) Well, now that I’m 50 days in and no-soda is getting easier and easier, I’m feeling ready to move on to Phase 2 of the quitting soda process, lol. Time to work on saving the money I was spending on it! Fountain iced teas are cheap compared to fancy Sbux coffees (only $2.10). But still, $2.10 x 30 days = $63 that I do not need to be spending. That is $756/ a year!! I could fly to Europe for that. AND iced tea is not the same as fountain soda (which tastes legitimately better from the fountain and I’d argue is more worth it…). The iced tea though is really no different than the iced tea I brew at home, in my cute glass pitcher. So instead, I have just been saving a gas station cup + straw, filling it with ice from my fridge and pouring my iced tea in, so I get the same “drinking experience” as I do from the gas station one. (I will still get the fountain version occasionally- I do like to put a splash of their Tropicana lemonade in for a treat sometimes!)

Daily Gratitude:

I am grateful for electric garage door openers. Ever think about that one? I’m grateful I can just push a button and don’t have to like, go crank my garage door open and closed every day….

  1. Overall you did SO well on your May goals, well done! Glad your May wasn’t quite as crazy with end of school things as the boys get older. As someone who DOESN’T have a garage door opener (ours is old school and has to be pulled up and down manually), I support your gratitude haha. Luckily we have a long drive not visible from the street so we can leave it open at times.

The rest of June actually has a lot of fun things on the calendar for me – a massage this Friday, a weekend away with Al and dressing up for the horse races, Eleanor’s 9th birthday, the start of the school holidays for the kids. Work HAS been crazy in May but I see open time on my calendar the next few weeks which also makes me happy. So hopefully it will be a nice month overall!

  2. If you want to listen to more Garth before your concert and have a library card, see if they subscribe to the Hoopla app! I love listening to full albums with it.

  3. I totally agree about the fountain soda/tea thing (you just knew I’d have something to say about this one…) Fountain sodas ARE better than regular soda! But fountain iced tea tastes the same as making iced tea at home. It’s fun to get sometimes, but really not worth the money. I like your plan, because the key is to make it at home but then have a fun cup to drink it out of.

I like your goals, and it’s reminding me of some things I need to do. We both have a rising senior (!!!) and I haven’t scheduled Angie’s photos yet. She’s being difficult (for a change) (just kidding) and only wants to do the yearbook photos. But we still have to make the appointment, as it’s still a formal photo session.

I’m getting very excited about your upcoming trip. Zion is on my bucket list, so I can’t wait to hear all about it.
