Streaming workout final round up!

Okay, abruptly changing gears from my sad post yesterday!

I want to share the final list of “streaming workout” options that you guys all gave me on this post. (I think it’s a fitting topic, because from what I know, regular exercise and living a very active life is one of the things consistently linked to helping to prevent dementia. And it’s one reason (of many) that I really prioritize exercise.)

There are so many great ideas here!! Including some I had never heard of.

Here you go!!

  • Caroline Girvan – On YouTube; highly recommended by many, specifically her “Iron Series”. (strength, cardio, HIIT; Free.)
  • Peloton– Paid membership. Seems to have a cult like following 😉so must be pretty darn good! (strength, yoga, barre; option for Peloton bike and treadmill.)
  • gethealthyutv.com – Paid membership, starting at just $10/month. Includes cardio and strength, and looks to even have some nice “walking” options and challenges! Hadn’t heard of this one.
  • Fitness Blender– Has Free or Paid option. At quick glance of website, there are 701 FREE video options, and 859 paid (“Plus”) videos. Whoa!
  • Yoga with Adrienne– On YouTube, free. Yoga! I haven’t done oodles of these, but I’ve done some, and I can vouch for that they are such nice videos and she seems positively lovely. Love the variety, monthly challenge options, and variety of Flow, Strength, Stretching/Relaxing options.
  • Apple Fitness– I had forgotten about this one! Definitely worth considering if you buy a new Apple watch, as you get 3 months free! I used it a couple years ago when I got my Apple watch. After that it’s very reasonable at I believe $9.99/month with lots of options for cardio, strength, dance, yoga and more.
  • Sydney Cummings– On YouTube, free. I haven’t tried her but have heard of her many times! I think pretty challenging, with more of a strength focus but also cardio.
  • Lindsay Bomgren at Nourish Move Love– free! Looks like a great variety for ALL levels, including plans, challenges, prenatal/postpartum options, and more.
  • FASTer Way to Fat Loss– Paid app membership, looks like possibly also some support/emphasis for those interested in intermittent fasting, too. Also has nutrition training options, strength, cardio and coaching options!
  • Madfit– free, YouTube. I’ll have to check this one out- I like the nice, short cardio options! Looks like HIIT, dance, cardio, strength options.
  • Two Birds Yoga– free, YouTube. Yoga. I like how it’s separated by practice length.
  • Breath and Flow– free, YouTube. Yoga. Looks like a bunch of men-specific options, too!
  • Emkfit– free, YouTube. Cardio (super fun dance videos!) and some strength, though I’ve not tried the strength options. Often short and sweet.
  • Momentum with Sohee– my current lifting program! I LOVE SOHEE, she’s the best. A paid program, $19.99/ month for virtual lifting plans. Strength only, no cardio, 2x, 3x, 4x per week, at home or in gym options.
  • Bodi.com (Beachbody)- strength/cardio/stretching options, paid membership. Lots of options to never get bored! I’m currently using this for my 3x/week cardio option (but only because I got a super good deal!)

Okay, that’s all I’ve got! Let me know if I missed anything!!

Happy exercising. 🙂

Daily Gratitude:

I am grateful for all these great streaming options!! I’m excited to save this. Look at all the great free choices! I feel like none of us has an excuse to not be physically active now, lol! 😅

    1. Hi! Overall they are a similar concept. Both have an app with video snippets of the exercises and ability to track workouts there, etc. They both cost about $20/month. They both offer home + gym versions.

I did Em’s for quite a long time- over a year at least. Her program offers 5x/ week workouts- 2 leg days, 2 upper, 1 full body. (You do the same workouts each week for a month, then new program each month). Her workouts are usually 45-60 minutes long.

Sohee’s is just 4x/ week (2 lower, 2 upper) but she also offers the option to pick only 3x or 2x/ week, if you want, and the workouts adjust so that you’re still hitting all the body parts. Sohee also has the option to make all workouts either “Turbo” (30 min) or regular (45-60 min). Plus home and gym. You basically get access to all the options in the app and you can pick and choose what you want to do. I personally do the Regular option, 4x/ week, in the gym. I find the 4x/ week is more realistic for me vs the 5 with Em’s program. (Obviously you could also just skip the 5th full body workout)

I liked Em’s workouts a lot, but I started to feel like the workouts were a bit repetitive, which made me feel like maybe I was getting a little ripped off, lol. I mean, not really, but some months it just felt like, ok, this Upper workout is practically identical to the one from 2 months ago, minus one move swapped out. But yet I’m paying for a new program each month… I don’t know. Also, her workouts utilized the cable machines a bit more than I prefer (not a big deal though). Finally, I have followed Sohee’s work for years and just feel like she’s really the “real deal” in terms of her knowledge and coaching expertise. She’s a PhD candidate at Stanford and has devoted her life to research and women’s fitness, and she really emphasizes WELLNESS and moderation and health over just “looking lean”. I just like her approach a lot, and also her workouts place a bigger emphasis on some of the “core moves” like squats, deadlifts, hip thrusts (but with variation and many accessory moves, too). I feel her programs are maybe a little better designed and more thoughtful. She puts out great content on IG as well.

Em is great too but I feel she’s learned more just through the industry and is less formally trained. I would still recommend her workouts and program though!

  1. Yes, I’m always astonished by the free options on Youtube. I did the Caroline Girvan Iron series, and recently I’ve been liking MadFit (or at least I was, until I hurt my rib) (sigh. eye roll.)

  2. And I’ve been running for some time now! and it’s quite enjoyable 🙂 However, I always have to remember about a hat and gloves, because in the winter you have to be well prepared for such training.
