Workout recap + Monday memes

Happy Monday. 🙂

Workout Recap Without Pictures Because I Wasn’t Really in the Picture-Taking Mood This Week:

Monday 8/21

20 minute morning walk after Ethan left for school.

Midday workout with Asher- Legs #1, Week 4. Starting to feel ready to move on to a new month’s program, but, August is a long month, so I think this is a 5 week program! This was a tough workout and I was sweating up a storm.

Tuesday 8/22

20 minute morning walk.

I have adopted Tuesdays as another no-gym day and this is working out GREAT. Tuesday (and Friday) have become my home cardio days- and I usually only do 20-30 minutes, so it’s not hard to fit in.

I did a “Grease” music themed Emkit fit dance video after work and it was a blast.

Wednesday 8/23

This was day one of our Excessive Heat Warning days. I went for a steamy 20 minute walk at 7 a.m., then worked. I was also very, very grumpy on Wednesday.

Took a “lunch break/ gym session” from 1-2 to attempt to re-set my mood (I drove, due to the heat!) and did Chest/Shoulders/ Triceps. Shoulders is usually my fav day. Did things like Incline DB bench press, lateral raises, cable front raises, tricep overhead presses, DB neutral presses, etc. I think it did help my crabby mood, at least some.

*This day also calls for 20 minutes of cardio too, but I’ve been splitting it up and doing the cardio on Tuesdays instead.

Thursday 8/24

Another morning walk (these have become a staple and loving it! They currently fit in perfectly right after Ethan leaves for school, but not sure if the timing will be as great once Asher starts school on Thursday. We’ll see… hoping to make it work many/most days somehow.)

Thursday was weird because Ethan got done with school at 11, and then had soccer until 2:00 at an indoor soccer place on the FAR side of town. I had to be the “picker upper” on Thursday, so no time for a work day workout. I did Legs #2 for the week Thursday evening. Asher was at my parents’ for a few days and E had an open night since school got done early/ no late soccer!

Friday 8/25

Morning walk- 20 minutes + 15 minute stretch class.

I wanted to do my Friday Cardio dance video then too, but Ivan’s brother from Mexico is staying with us. He was in our downstairs guest room, pretty near my office… and my office door is glass. I was too nervous that he would wake up and somehow see my horrendous dance moves through the glass door (LOL), so I decided to push my workout until later in the day when he was going to be away at their sister’s house- and I could have the house to myself. 😂

Ended up squeezing in an Nsync vs Backstreet Boys Emkit Dance Video before showering and leaving for a 4 pm work happy hour event. ✅ Dinner was out with Ethan, Ivan, his brother and their mom.

Saturday 8/26

Saturday was Ethan’s first high school soccer game!! Yay! It was exciting (new milestone) and fun. They also won 2-0 and he played well.

No morning walk happened but later in the afternoon I did fit in a walk to the gym + my back/biceps workout.

Ethan had to stay for the Varsity game to volunteer as a Ball Chaser (each player gets assigned 3 shifts throughout the season), but fortunately another mom offered to bring Ethan home. Yippee! I had thought I might not have a chance to fit my workout in- I thought it made the most sense for me to just wait for Ethan, given the distance. My parents were coming for the night (bringing Asher home), so the evening window for a workout was out, too. But thanks to this other mom freeing up 2 hours in my day, I could. 🙂 (Ivan offered to run and pick Ethan up after his own soccer game, too, but the carpool option was even better since she was already there.)

Sunday 8/27

Kind of a busy, chaotic day. My parents had stayed overnight and were at my house for much of the day. I did a little meal prep and grocery shopping despite that (Monday was still coming on hot…. had to take care of some stuff!).

Ivan, Ethan and Zury, Ivan’s brother, went to Ivan’s soccer game early, and then in the afternoon we ran a couple errands related to a hopefully upcoming bathroom remodel at my house. (Which, as Elisabeth suggests in her post today, would be AMAZING if I could just snap my fingers and magically have completely done. Because although I really, really want a remodeled main bathroom, I have about 0% energy and bandwidth to devote to this right now…but it also needs to happen. I only feel like crying a little bit when I think about this.)

I managed to squeeze in my final strength workout of the week- Full Body- in the late afternoon after my parents left and before Ivan’s other brother + his new girlfriend and Ivan’s sister and kids all came over for dinner. Sigh. I mean… how lovely! 😑 Okay, it WAS nice… Ivan made homemade nachos, by popular request, so I didn’t have to cook and they were delicious. The conversation was nice and very enjoyable. And I understand… the family all wants to see the “brother from Mexico” while he is here visiting. But I also had my house full of people (again), including little kids, until after 9:00 p.m. On Sunday night. Not my ideal way to roll into a new week, especially after just a generally full weekend as it was.

Me.

Ivan’s mom was in Chicago for the weekend visiting one of her sisters who lives there, so she wasn’t there this weekend. But she’ll be back today! 🙃

The only workout I missed this week was 1 cardio session. Darn it! Broke my perfect streak. 😉

The places keeping me sane lately:

A few memes I’ve saved recently:

For the Ted Lasso fans in the house. ♥ I miss Ted.

For those who also feel like scratching all to-do items from their lists this week and doing this instead:

For those who are livin’ the dream, probably with toddlers….. lol:

For anyone else who is kinda tired, whose back hurts and also feels like they are currently hemorrhaging money out the window (🙋‍♀️):

For everyone:

Daily Gratitude:

I am grateful for my parents. They are awesome, and I am so lucky.

  1. I am also SUPER grateful for my parents! They are taking care of Paul this week. Otherwise I don’t know what we’d do! And they are excited to take care of him and are in great health so can keep up with a busy 5yo which is really saying something since they are both 75!

Nice work on your workouts! I had a decent week, too. I did Caroline Girvan workouts on Thur/Fri and then ran on Sat/Sun. The Thursday workout was a HIIT burpee palooza… you can imagine how much I didn’t love it, but it was a very good workout. Paul did some of it with me. Turns out 5yo are very good at burpees. Ha.

Wow you have had a lot of family time! It’s like a revolving door of family members! I am sure Ivan is loving it. I’d probably have to go hide in my room for awhile. That is what my SIIL Julie used to do at big family gatherings. She came from a small family so our massive family would really overwhelm her. She’s adapted after 20+ years of marriage but in the early years, she would go find a quiet room and hide out and no one could blame her! I’ll have a a big family weekend this coming weekend. Sleeping arrangements are going to be challenging with so many people at my parents but I’m going to grin and bare it since I rarely see my little sister and her family!

  2. I find houseguests so stressful, and am working on being less grumpy about it but it is hard. Even when I like the people, it’s an awful lot of work having extra people. But we live in a 1,000 square foot house and my office has the guest bed in it.

My parents are fairly easy – my mom and I will try new recipes, she’ll do projects, my dad will get tired of eating what he calls my “rabbit food” cooking and buy Chinese for us all. They love doing the school run for us, and my dad likes to go into the city and run errands.

We swapped offices when my MILs were here, and my husband’s stepmum informed him that he couldn’t get to work until after 9 because she wouldn’t be up by then. He starts at 8, we have a 6-year-old, no one is sleeping past 6:30 in this household. The idea you’d come to the home of two full-time working parents with a young child for a “good, long rest…” is something else! It’s not a hotel! I’m a good cook and generally like to cook for other people, but not when it feels taken for granted/expected?

    1. Oh my gosh. That is crazy about your in laws kind of trying to rule the roost!! No!! Totally unrealistic to expect you guys to completely alter work schedules and regular wake times just because they are there!! I mean, life goes on….

  3. I love memes so THANK YOU.
You know how I feel about company, so you know I feel your pain.

Your gym looks lovely. I wish we had something like that nearby where we live! There are several options in town, but they’re all quite small and all very expensive. Sigh. Nova Scotia has to have some problems, right?

  4. I LOVE TED LASSSSSSOOOOOOO
OMG I laughed out loud at making memories, also no. Too funny!
Wow, you sure had a lot of guests! Woo. That feels like a lot of entertaining! A few weeks ago a woman I met – who had also moved here from Alberta – told me to get ready to feel like I’m going to be running a B&B, so many people will want to come and have a place to stay. That hasn’t happened yet, but I can see it happening (we just got a request to see if we are going to be here at New Year’s and if so, do we have an extra room…)
I could really go for some nachos right now!

  5. Okay, I’m laughing so, so hard at the memes- especially the haiku, the reading one, and the “making memories (no)” one. I might have to borrow one for my blog (giving you full credit of course!)
So, first of all- guests at the house on Sunday until 9:00 pm would stress me out so much! If I even do something on a Sunday afternoon, I feel behind on Sunday night and frazzled going into the week. You’re a good sport.
Nice week of workouts! I’m always impressed with how you fit it all in, with everything else going on. Whenever someone compliments me on my workout schedule, it’s like… well, I only have one kid at home, she doesn’t do sports (only band, which has about 1/10th of the time commitment) and I have a consistent, built in hour in my mornings with nothing else to do other than exercise. I mean there are exceptions, but I’m not usually juggling things around LIKE YOU ARE.
I used to dislike strength training so much, and now I’m eagerly reading about what other people do. I don’t think I’ll ever write the words “Shoulders is usually my fav day” but I am enjoying it more and more.
What you described about your bathroom is how I felt about re-doing our kitchen. AND IT WAS SUCH A PAIN. But now we’re in the home stretch and it was so worth it- you can do it!

  6. I love that you fit the 20 min walk everyday. do you listen to anything? or devise free? I walk 10 min to and from office everyday but less quiet like your walk route.

    1. I do usually listen to podcasts. Sometimes if my brain feels a little overwhelmed though I do try to just go without anything and just walk in silence or listen to the birds!

  7. I am also grateful for my parents and love how close we are. I am always sad when people have strained relationships with their parents and it reminds me how lucky I am.

Great week of varied workouts. I agree, workouts always help my grumpy mood 😉
