Soar like the eagle you are :)

In honor of the Olympics kicking off today (Opening Ceremony is on live right now!!) AND Asher kicking off Day 1 of the Wisconsin 12&Under Long Course State Swimming Championship meet this afternoon, here’s a little inspirational story I saved the other day.

(I have heard other, simpler versions of this story, but I like this one the best.)

“A man found an eagle’s egg and put it in a nest of a barnyard hen. The eaglet hatched with the brood of chickens and grew up with them.

All his life the eagle did what the barnyard chicks did, thinking he was a barnyard chicken. He scratched the earth for worms and insects. He clucked and cackled. And he would thrash his wings and fly a few feet into the air.

Years passed and the eagle grew very old. One day he saw a magnificent bird above him in the cloudless sky. It glided in graceful majesty among the powerful wind currents, with scarcely a beat of its strong golden wings.

The old eagle looked up in awe. “Who’s that?” he asked.

“That’s the eagle, the king of the birds,” said his neighbor. “He belongs to the sky. We belong to the earth—we’re chickens.”

So the eagle lived and died a chicken, for that’s what he thought he was.”

I love this. It’s such a good reminder that sometimes, maybe the only thing truly holding us back is our own beliefs!

Cheers to all the athletes and everyone else out there today who were lucky enough to realize that they are EAGLES, meant to soar. 🙂

Go Team USA, and, Go Asher!! ❤❤

Daily Gratitude:

I am grateful for the joyful look on Asher’s face last night at the dinner with his swim friends. He looked SO happy. 🙂

  1. Love that story, although it makes me think of Buddy the T-Rex on dinosaur train! I don’t know if that show was around when your kids were little but Paul LOVES it. The T-Rex grows up with pteranodons.

I’m really excited for the olympics and hope things are fairly ‘normal’ or as normal as they can be during a pandemic with no fans! I’m most excited for gymnastics!!
