Okay, it’s a new day. Yesterday was June 1st, but as you know, I didn’t really have it in me yesterday to write a regular post. It felt like the world was imploding (honestly, it still does to me). I hope you enjoyed the wise words of MLK Jr in my place.
But I had a little time to sort of “take my minute”, reflect on some things and I feel a tiny bit more centered this morning. So I’m going to claim TODAY as my new June 1st, the official start of the new month.
I’m going to keep writing and living and doing what I can to be the love and the light and the change or whatever my little self can be in the world.
I have noticed on social media that many people are “going silent” this week in response to all the events happening (completely refraining from any posting online). Sarah at theshubox.com wrote a nice piece this morning reflecting on the dilemma of how to handle the relative triviality of things like blogging during this time.
I personally want to keep spreading positivity and inspiration wherever I can, even if it’s just in the form of a little blog post or a pretty picture. Every little bit helps, I think, to raise the number of positive messages going out into the world instead of negative ones. 😊
So! On that note, let’s find some good stuff.
I’m going to back up to Sunday. I had a fabulous day, actually, before I got home and started following the news again…
It was an absolutely gorgeous day here in WI- low 70s and full sunshine. We finished painting the deck rails (yippee! Just a sort of tedious, annoying task, so I’m glad it’s done) and then in the afternoon we met up with my parents for a ~ 13 mile bike ride on a local trail. It was wonderful!! The trail is so pretty and the weather was just right… being out in nature really is just the natural antidote to stress and worry.
What else? This is the LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL!
I am happy about that. I’m just pretty over it all by this point.
I am a little worried about the lack of structure without it, but we can figure that out. I usually always am that mean mom who makes her kids do workbooks and stuff anyway during the summer sometimes, so we will be working out some sort of system to get a little bit of brain power involved at least. They always like to read anyway, so there’s that. They’ve also already been doing the Duo Lingo Spanish app and some other fun yet educational things too.

Ethan has a tennis lesson this morning and it is heating up to be a HOT one today. I love early June…must be something about the angle of the sun this time of year or something, but there’s just this “look” that I always love (compared to like, late August. Hard to explain).
I’m looking forward to sitting out on the court watching him. Asher’s swim team started up some dryland (i.e. non-pool workouts, but still exercise) at a local park last night. It’s startingto feel a tiny bit “back to normal” with a few more things being added to the calendar. I’m glad it’s starting slow though. I don’t think I could handle going from 0 to 90 mph again immediately.
Finally, a couple things I found yesterday that helped me reflect on the world and the situation at large:
Have a great day 💗 Let’s over turn some more negativity. What are you grateful for today? What is GOOD?
I am grateful for summer-like weather. SO many years, we have cold, crappy Junes in WI…I remember many years it not even warming up really until the end of the month. I’m grateful for the beautiful weather this past weekend, so we could enjoy our bike ride, and for the hot weather this week to kick off the boys’ summer break! 🙂
