Okay, it’s a new day. Yesterday was June 1st, but as you know, I didn’t really have it in me yesterday to write a regular post. It felt like the world was imploding (honestly, it still does to me). I hope you enjoyed the wise words of MLK Jr in my place.
But I had a little time to sort of “take my minute”, reflect on some things and I feel a tiny bit more centered this morning. So I’m going to claim TODAY as my new June 1st, the official start of the new month.
I’m going to keep writing and living and doing what I can to be the love and the light and the change or whatever my little self can be in the world.
I have noticed on social media that many people are “going silent” this week in response to all the events happening (completely refraining from any posting online). Sarah at theshubox.com wrote a nice piece this morning reflecting on the dilemma of how to handle the relative triviality of things like blogging during this time.
I personally want to keep spreading positivity and inspiration wherever I can, even if it’s just in the form of a little blog post or a pretty picture. Every little bit helps, I think, to raise the number of positive messages going out into the world instead of negative ones. 😊
So! On that note, let’s find some good stuff.
I’m going to back up to Sunday. I had a fabulous day, actually, before I got home and started following the news again…
It was an absolutely gorgeous day here in WI- low 70s and full sunshine. We finished painting the deck rails (yippee! Just a sort of tedious, annoying task, so I’m glad it’s done) and then in the afternoon we met up with my parents for a ~ 13 mile bike ride on a local trail. It was wonderful!! The trail is so pretty and the weather was just right… being out in nature really is just the natural antidote to stress and worry.
What else? This is the LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL!
I am happy about that. I’m just pretty over it all by this point.
I am a little worried about the lack of structure without it, but we can figure that out. I usually always am that mean mom who makes her kids do workbooks and stuff anyway during the summer sometimes, so we will be working out some sort of system to get a little bit of brain power involved at least. They always like to read anyway, so there’s that. They’ve also already been doing the Duo Lingo Spanish app and some other fun yet educational things too.

It’s difficult to feel down when you are looking at a hamster tower. 🙂 |
Ethan has a tennis lesson this morning and it is heating up to be a HOT one today. I love early June…must be something about the angle of the sun this time of year or something, but there’s just this “look” that I always love (compared to like, late August. Hard to explain).
I’m looking forward to sitting out on the court watching him. Asher’s swim team started up some dryland (i.e. non-pool workouts, but still exercise) at a local park last night. It’s startingto feel a tiny bit “back to normal” with a few more things being added to the calendar. I’m glad it’s starting slow though. I don’t think I could handle going from 0 to 90 mph again immediately.
Finally, a couple things I found yesterday that helped me reflect on the world and the situation at large:
Have a great day 💗 Let’s over turn some more negativity. What are you grateful for today? What is GOOD?
Daily Gratitude:
I am grateful for summer-like weather. SO many years, we have cold, crappy Junes in WI…I remember many years it not even warming up really until the end of the month. I’m grateful for the beautiful weather this past weekend, so we could enjoy our bike ride, and for the hot weather this week to kick off the boys’ summer break! 🙂
I get why people are doing the silent thing… but I also think it's important to spread positivity regardless of the world falling apart around us. Keep doing your thing – even if you cheer up just 1 person, you've made a difference.

Thanks, Joel! That's how I feel about it. I also understand why others are choosing to do that, but it just doesn't feel like the right move for me today. I think both methods can be effective. 🙂

I've been more silent on social media and such lately, but my city is the epicenter for everything that is happening so I feel weird posting a cute photo of my son or something like that. Totally not judging what others decide to do or post. It's just really heavy here. Instead I've texted pictures of our son to my mom and Phil's mom as I know they love the updates and like seeing pictures of him. It's going to be HOT here today! In the 90s. It feels like August out there between the heat and humidity! So I am grateful that we have air conditioning! We ran it for the first time last night as it was way too hot to sleep! Besides that I'm grateful that I have some fun plans on the calendar next weekend – a playdate for Paul with daycare friends and another coffee date with 3 girlfriends. After several months of isolation I am really enjoying have some social plans, even if things look way different than pre-COVID (all our get together are outdoors and us adults keep 6' apart).

I am also grateful for air conditioning! Good one!! I'm really glad you're getting some social time. It has sounded like it has done wonders for you. 🙂

I fully agree that there's no need to stop blogging to be aware of what's happening. World is in a dark place so more need to bring positivity. I'm intrigued by Duo Lingo Spanish. I'll check it out as I am trying to "structure" my girls summer break when we are grounded. My daughters speak spanish with me but would love them to learn it properly too. So jealous of your bike ride.
