Life Lately: The Busy Fall Edition

Eeeeek I have felt so strapped for time lately and blogging continues to take a backseat!! I was encouraged to see Daria’s post yesterday basically lamenting the exact same thing. I think she said something about having “tons of balls in the air” and I couldn’t relate more.

For me, it’s been:

  • WORK= currently stressing me the heck out. I flat out have too much on my plate right now and I’m not sure what to do. 🫤 Advice welcome….?
  • busy evenings (feels like something every night! Soccer games, Asher’s volleyball games, seeing my parents, my own volleyball games (such as a 9:10 pm game last night… 😳, other stuff)
  • household things (getting roof quotes, we need a new hot tub cover because ours suddenly split open!, etc.)
  • volunteer meetings (both swim board and on soccer banquet planning committee…)
  • usual life maintenance like groceries and cleaning
  • trying to keep eating well and working out and walking and all the things we’re supposed to do….
  • a list of a million appointments and phone calls

We also threw in hosting a big Sunday evening gathering with a bunch of Ivan’s family (aunt and uncle in town from Mexico, not staying here!) which involved me basically cooking/ prepping all day. Made pulled pork sandwiches, a big fresh fruit salad, a corn side, a pumpkin cake dessert… nothing was hard but somehow it still ate up a ton of time.

I have many more recent updates to catch up on, but for now, some randoms from my camera roll:

A new favorite sign my mom bought me! We went on a fun fall outing last Saturday, just me, her and Asher, to a huge antique mall. This is… clearly not an antique 🤪 but was still there for sale and I love that quote so much. I find it so reassuring.
A pic I texted to my friend Kathleen (the beautiful and amazing host of The Reframe podcast, a BIG fancy lawyer turned early retiree!). She had a recent episode on little ways to make autumn feel “abundant”, and leaning into little cozy things was one of them. She inspired me to a light a candle one morning in the bathroom while I did my makeup. 🙂

Ivan and I took Charlie on a gorgeous fall walk on Sunday morning at a local park:

And finally, some recent meals! Because who doesn’t love looking at other people’s food. 🤣 I’ve been solidly chugging along on the protein train despite being busy (it helps to have built in accountability buddies when your friends are into the same things…SHU….💕 AND it’s true that the longer you do something, the easier it gets). I’ve been averaging about 135 grams a day really without much trouble! Woohoo! 💪 For the first time in, basically ever?, I’m also watching fiber numbers and averaging between 20-25 g a day there too which for me? Is excellent.

Alright, that’s all for now! Lots of good stuff, lots of chaos. Oh! And our Milwaukee Brewers are ONE GAME AWAY from going to the World Series!! AND the Packers crushed the Bears on Sunday 31-7. It’s a good week to be a Wisconsin sports fan. 🙂

Daily Gratitude:

I am grateful for fall candles! I have been really leaning into candles right now and it makes me very happy.

  1. I’m rooting for the Brewers! But a little cranky that Packers beat the Bears ; )

I’m sorry work is so stressful! You really do have a LOT on your plate. I would say I hope it calms down soon, but things don’t usually get LESS busy in November/December. I think you’re doing everything you can to manage it- taking care of yourself and leaning into the little things (like candles- yes I love fall candles too!!!!) Oh, and losing a weekend day to all day party prep doesn’t help! I hope this weekend is a little more empty for you???
