Final post… a day in the life

Day 30 of NaBloPoMo is here, and something strange has happened. I can’t really think of anything to write about today. Surprisingly, throughout these last 30 days, this has not been a problem. Ever! I mean, I’m not saying every post has been profound- nope, not at all.

But I just sat here for a few minutes and nothing really popped into my mind to say. Weird! I guess I am officially out of words. Haha.

I guess I’ll just tell you about my day. A “day in the life” post.

It was a pretty average day. Was up by about 5:15 and spent some time doing my morning routine/check and respond to a few work messages, get my day organized, etc.

6:30- 7:30 was spent getting Charlie up, letting him out, play with him, put dishes away, breakfast, talk to boys as they got ready for school, I combed Charlie’s hair.

7:30-8 drive Asher to school, home, clean up kitchen

8-8:45 shower, listen to podcast

8:45-11 Charlie in crate for nap, work

11-12 work meeting

12:15-1 break- walk Charlie

1-2:50 long work meeting. Charlie back in crate for a bit. Normally he stays out in the afternoon with me, but due to a kind of important meeting, I put him in crate again. He napped, again.

2:50-4:30 work, Charlie out with me in office until Asher got home and took him upstairs to hang with him in sunroom while he read.

4:30-6:00 Charlie out, made dinner- chicken enchiladas. Took a while as I made the sauce from scratch and all. Ethan practiced piano during this time for a long while (making up for NOT practicing the last two days… 😏)

6:00-7:00 eat, clean up, family etc

7:00 drop Asher at swim practice, drive to gym

7-8:15 gym- leg day

8:15 home. Ivan picked up Asher 8:15.

8:30-9:30 talk to Ivan, throw toys around for Charlie to play, miscellaneous household stuff, read a couple blogs. Eat two Oreos dunked in milk. 😆

“Post-workout”. Oh, you’re supposed to have a protein shake after leg day? I always thought it was Oreos.

*also during this time- we gave the boys special permission to play some Fortnite with their friends on a weeknight (they normally can’t do video games during the week) because of some special level thing or something that is going away forever after Sunday. So it’s URGENT! (Uh huh sure). Also, Asher leaves for swim meet in Iowa after school tomorrow and won’t be playing at all this weekend. And they both already read for the night! 🎉

9:30 writing this post! I think boys are coming out to watch a Modern Family episode before bed with me.

And that was my day. Pretty average, good day.

I am perpetually perplexed at how large families manage meals and food storage and food cleanup, because it seems to generally dominate A LOT of time and there are only 4 of us. I think if I had to manage meals for 6 children or something I might go jump off a bridge. lol.

I really need to get organized to hopefully attempt some Christmas shopping this weekend- I’m starting to get a little stressed about not having started that. I think I should have some time though so I’m trying to just breathe easy and not worry yet.

Happy Final Day of NaBloPoMo!! I hope you enjoyed my posts. 😊

Daily Gratitude:

I am grateful for funny TV.

“Why am I on this side, and you’re over there???”

  1. I know that running a household takes a lot of work, that’s why I can’t imagine living without help anymore. all the laundry, dishes, meal prep, cooking that are required everyday is really not feasible for me to do while pursuing my hobbies. I know 99% of families still need to do those, thus I really feel grateful for living in a developing country. If I move back to the US, something will have to give.

  2. There are only TWO ADULTS in our house and my entire life after work is exercise, walk the dog, and deal with food things (cooking, cleaning, etc.). My question is how anyone gets anything done in the evenings? How do you fit in a youth sports event? Even doing a load of laundry? It all seems impossible and I honestly have no idea how people with children manage to do anything.

  3. I have no idea how larger families operate. I am in AWE of people with multiple kids — it must require so much patience and organizational ability and flexibility that I don’t possess.

Congrats on finishing NaBloPoMo! You rocked it!

  4. I am 1 of 5 and I marvel at the meals my mom put on the table each night for us. We nearly always had a protein, starch and veggie. She did lean on Schwann’s food at times but overall, I would say I ate really well. And my parents both worked full time – and we often didn’t have a grocery store in our town as they struggled to stay afloat in a small community like ours. I guess the only answer is that my mom was a wizard of some sort. Step aside, Harry Potter.

I only cook 3 times/week since the boys usually eat something different than us (not ideal but the way it is right now). We live off leftovers and easy meals. Our boys eat an embarrassingly low # of meals but we keep trying to find things they like/will eat. It’s very hard to get meals on the table on days when I am in the office, though, so we definitely fly by the seat of our pants Tues-Thur.

  5. Thoughts… I am jealous of households having a helper. We don’t even have a cleaner, let alone a helper. Oh how I wish we could hire one. The laundry… The clean laundry has been sitting in ugly piles in our laundry room will Tuesday. Then on Tuesday, T folded everything and now it is sitting in pretty piles. But still in the laundry room.

  6. No good story ever started with “and I had a protein shake after the gym”. All the cool kids have oreos dunked in milk for their post-workout.

Happy end of NaBloPo! It was a blast!

  7. I LOVE day in the life posts- you could have done that for all 30 days and I would have been happy. I know i’ve said this 100 times, but I’m once again astounded that you went to the gym AFTER DINNER. How do you do that????? I mean I practically have my pajamas on as soon as I get home from work. Anyway- great job on completing NaBloPoMo! It was fun, wasn’t it?

  8. I don’t know how families do it. I honestly don’t. I also can’t believe you work out in the evening – I am in bed some nights (ahem, maybe most nights this time of year…) by 7:30!
