Two things today:
#1. AN IMPORTANT PSA to any blog readers of Elisabeth Frost!!!
I got a text from Elisabeth yesterday saying that it seems her blog has accidentally been possibly permanently deleted!!!
There was some sort of accidental server deactivation which apparently deleted her site…. and all of her amazing content!!
This is so heartbreaking. She is still working on it to see if there’s any hope of recovering it. If anyone out there knows a lot about self-hosted WordPress blogs and other tech stuff and might be able to help, please reach out to Elisabeth, or, let me know and I will connect you with her!
Elisabeth is an absolute GEM in the blogosphere and I know she has so many huge fans. I just wanted to put this out there in case anyone is trying to access her site and sadly, finding it no longer there. (I know we likely have some cross-over readers, so I’m hoping this PSA reaches at least a few of her readers!)
As we’d expect from Elisabeth, she’s taking this blow in stride and with a most gracious perspective, saying that, after all, it’s “just writing”… though I know losing years of her beautiful work is devastating. ♥♥

#2: A couple of nice quotes from this week:
The first is from my Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff Calendar- from September 1st (I missed a few days and was catching up this morning):

I’m not claiming that every person in the world should be an early riser, nor do I think we all need to carve out 1-2 hours for ourselves every morning. That may not be feasible, and sleep is actually very important, too.
But I do think that if there’s one really important thing that you “don’t have time for”, doing it immediately when you get up, before anything else gets in the way, is a great (maybe the best?) option.
I’m having so much success with regular reading now that I have incorporated it as basically the first thing I do. It’s just 10 minutes! Everyone has 10 minutes to devote to something first thing in the morning, I’d argue. 😉
The second quote is from my current fiction choice (Beneath a Scarlet Sky). I sat in the sunroom and read last night for a bit while Ethan sat at the desk reading a U.S. History textbook and taking notes. 😉
“Good,” Anna said. “I’m a student of happiness, you know. It’s all I really want- happiness, every day for the rest of my life. Sometimes happiness comes to us. But usually you have to seek it out. I read that somewhere.”
“And that’s all you want? Happiness?”
“What could be better?”
“How do you find happiness?”
Anna paused, then said, “You start by looking right around you for the blessings you have. When you find them, be grateful.”
Well said, Anna. 🙂
Daily Gratitude:
I am grateful for my blog friends. I feel really blessed to have connected with so many amazing people through my blog in such a real, meaningful way.

Poor Elisabeth! She told me about this yesterday, too. I would be so devastated if I was here. I use my blog as such a record keeper. Like 2 weekends ago, my parents pulled out these “bumper boat” things which are innertubes with a battery operated motor. We couldn’t remember who had used them, so I looked at all the posts I had that were tagged with family and low and behold – I found a blog post from 2008 with pictures of my nephews using those bumper boats! I also look back on the posts I wrote about the boys at different ages, especially to see what is different/similar between the boys. I’ve been blogging for 15 years now (!!!) so there it would be terrible to lose everything! 😦 Unfortunately I’m terrible at tech so am no help on a solution.
I look forward to a time when my kids aren’t such early risers so I can gain that early morning hour back. When I was at the lake, I was usually up by 6:15-6:30 and the boys slept until 7:15. It was nice to have that 45 minutes to chat with my mom and eat breakfast. It will be easier to fit runs/exercise in when they don’t need constant surveillance. For now, I’m the early morning parent and then run once Phil is up. But given the choice, I’d rather run shortly after eating breakfast.

I can imagine!! My blog is not nearly as old as yours but I would be so sad to lose it too! I know Elisabeth has the text backed up at least, but both she and I lean heavy into photos in our posts … so I would be really sad if those were no longer there among the text!

OMG ELISABETH! That is so, so sad – I very much hope they fix the glitch and can revive your content! I would definitely go into mourning if my archives disappeared.

shoot – hit reply too soon!
I hope everything gets figured out and I feel so lucky to have been able to read her wonderful writing and look forward to reading more soon!
I love the idea of doing something important first thing in the morning – I’ve been trying to switch my morning 10 minute yoga session to first thing when I get up because my usual later morning time slot hasn’t really been working out.

Fingers crossed somehow it magically gets straightened out!!
Yoga first thing sounds very nice! I have also toyed with the idea of moving my Chiro exercises to first thing. But then again, I can only really have ONE first thing… so.. haha.

OMG poor Elisabeth!! If it helps (Elisabeth, if you see this!!) I use feedly to read blogs and it looks like as of this moment, I can still see text from old posts…..

Yes, I pointed that out to her too, but fortunately she does have the text part backed up somehow. But in terms of her full site with all the texts, pics, comments… I think that’s the part that has disappeared. 😦

Oh, no, Elisabeth! Oh, how awful. With that said, I also have access to Feedly and the text is definitely there. At least for now. I don’t know how that could help, but… oh, this is awful. I hope that it is fixed asap. What a horrible experience. I’ll come back to read the rest of your post later, Kae, but thank you for sharing this.

Thank you everyone for the love and support and a special thanks to Kae for being my mouthpiece when I can’t access my site *sob*
I do have all the text because I export that monthly but, sadly, all the images are gone (they’re all saved on my computer, but the resized and inserted/selected images appear to be gone from their place in the text). I may be able to restore the posts without photos (hopefully with comments; *double sob* how I love engaging with everyone in the comments)…but the service I’ve hired to retrieve the data hasn’t finished yet. Time will tell.
I’ll be back to writing when I’m able and until then – again – THANK YOU!!!
A blog is so much more than words and pictures – it’s people and community and I’m so grateful for all the deep and meaningful friendships I’ve made in the last two years. Even if I can’t recover anything properly, it has been 100% worth it to meet so many wonderful friends.
Now…I’ll stop hijacking Kae’s blog with this mini-post of my own ❤

Oh, Elisabeth, our hearts are breaking at the thought of your site being lost. I hope that those you have hired to help you fix this, and soon. We need your beautiful voice out here in the blogosphere. ❤

Hi Elisabeth, it looks like you may be able to view some of your content up to June of this year via The Wayback Machine. Images seem to be hit and miss but comments seem to be viewable. Not sure how useful this will be in practical terms but you’d at least be able to re-create or preserve a lot of the site structure. I think this is a good PSA to remind us all to back up our blogs. I honestly have an almost 20-year-old blog and don’t think I’ve ever backed it up. I must figure it out!

oh so sorry about what Elizabeth is dealing. hope she finds a solution. should we all backing up our posts? scary!
love the second quote as I’m already an early riser (4:30am). when I face something, I remind myself to be grateful for what I have, and that whatever I am facing, it’s temporary.

OH MY GOD WHAT
I would be so devastated if I lost my 15 years of blogging, gosh, I hope it can be brought back. Elisabeth is a gem and I am so sad on her behalf. After everything else that’s been going on – she does not need one more shitty thing to deal with!

Yes, I knew about Elisabeth’s issue! She is taking it so, so well- I would be frantic. And- I don’t have my blog posts backed up. I actually don’t know how to do that. Maybe I need to figure it out! This is a warning for all of us.
i love both those quotes. Hmmm, a Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff daily calendar? I loved the book- now I want one of these calendars.
