Mexico- wedding day prep!

As I said last night, today (Friday November 14) is the wedding day!

The mothers of the bride and groom and the bridesmaids and finally the bride were all going to be having their hair and makeup done at the house we’re staying at.

The moms had the first appts- 8 am!! The mother of the bride was a little unsure about such an early time (that’s a long time then to keep looking nice and fresh until a 4 pm wedding…), but it’s now after 2 pm and she still looks great.

These two young women have been working HARD all day and the amount of products and things they are using is impressive. (I jumped in the shower at about 1:00 and was ready in my usual 35-40 minutes…. Sadly I am not skilled in the arena of hair and makeup. I always joke “I have one look!” My daily hair and makeup routine is basically the exact same routine I do every day whether I’m going to Target or the grocery store or a wedding. 😅😅) Maybe one day I will learn how to do fancy hair styles and elegant makeup. Or more likely, not. 😆

Iván and I had coffee and tea up on the roof patio earlier this morning. The weather is gorgeous!!

They don’t have permanent patio furniture yet for the new house but we brought some folding chairs up. It was nice!

Downstairs in the kitchen, the bride and the mother-of-the-bride made some different breakfast options – eggs with chorizo and eggs with pinto beans. The mom roasted fresh tomatillos and whipped up a delicious salsa verde, in her bathrobe with her fancy up do and makeup on.

I got a giggle out of envisioning my own mom making a big mess in the kitchen and frying eggs and making salsa from scratch for a bunch of people on the morning of a huge event. 😅😅😅 (Would NEVER happen! Honestly, I wouldn’t want to do all this either- I’d be more like, here’s a box of bagels and fruit, have at it or else take yourself out to a nicer breakfast elsewhere… I got stuff to do!!)

They did have some Mexican sweet bread on hand too:

Fanny received the traditional flower bouquet from her groom (they were delivered). We all laughed because she was just making herself an egg and bean taco when the doorbell rang. Her little brother called her to come to the door and started video recording… meanwhile Fanny had no idea why, so she went to the door with her taco on a plate in her hand. 🤣 How romantic. 😅

The beautiful bride (before any hair and makeup!):

The note says “See you at the altar, don’t be late! From, your future husband.”

The bride’s turn:

Eventually Ivan and I went out for a little walk. The wedding will be at a larger church about 15 min away, but we just walked around the little town right here from their house.

Afterwards I did my nails. Went with my usual ImPress nails, a French manicure:

The mother-of-the-bride is ready to go!

I’m all ready except I need to slip my dress on. Hair/makeup/jewelry all on, but I’m in PJ pants and a zip hoodie. 😉

Will report back tomorrow on the actual wedding! Almost time. We have to leave in about half an hour now.

  1. This sounds like so much fun! All the excitement and anticipation of a wedding, without being one of the “main” players, so a lot less stress!!! What fabulous weather you are having!

I am loving the peek at some of the traditional elements of the wedding, like the coins and the flower bouquet. Is that the same bouquet that the bride will carry with her down the aisle? Did you and your husband do any of these traditions when you got married?

  2. Wow, so much commotion! It’s interesting to follow along with “different traditions”… hopefully you’ll share a photo of the bride “after hair and makeup” and with wedding gown 🙂

  3. Wedding prep can be so stressful! I have had some really early hair and make up appts. One was at like 6:30 or 7? I had a small wedding party so we started hair and make up around 10 I think? I went for a run with my sister the morning of my wedding which was super fun as we ran by the church where we got married. We ordered salads and wraps for everyone, though. I agree that there is no chance my mom would be making food while in hair and make up. LOL!

It looks like the weather is quite nice!!

  4. I’m going to echo what Suzanne said- I love all the excitement and prep work, as long as I’m not the one in charge. Weddings are fun! I can’t wait to hear all about it!
