Life, Work

A day!

Ugh, I had a DAY today.

Started full of promise:

And I ended up feeling like this guy:

Ha! A wooden Christmas decoration in my basement that apparently Charlie knocked over… and where did the fuzzy stuff come from?? 🤔 who knows.

Not really worth delving into- was some work stuff.

Anyway, let’s look on the bright side. On Monday I made the fairly last minute decision to take off Thursday and Friday this week. I SO rarely take days off to just… be home.

But I was craving a long weekend – 4 days in a row!- off to just do a little relaxing, but also just have some open time to keep chipping away at my holiday/fall to do list.

Given the craptastic day I had, I asked Ivan if he wanted to stop for a glass of wine at this great local restaurant right by our house. He’s basically always game to go out, so we dropped Asher at swim practice at 7:05 and then went to the restaurant.

We sat at our favorite corner bar table there and I thoroughly enjoyed a big glass of wine (Ivan had a beer) and pizza while listening to their wonderful live musician (a guitarist).

Then we picked Asher up at 8:40 and drove home!

Very much looking forward to a few days off with no travel, no big plans.

Daily Gratitude:

I am grateful for some funny texts with my coworker that had me laughing out loud and helped my annoyance with this day melt away.

  1. I just texted you that, ironically, last night I was just about to sit down and write you about MY craptastic day. Too bad we couldn’t go on a long walk together and vent. But a night out with Ivan sounds equally lovely for you 😉

Hope things are looking brighter today and I’m sure starting things off with a walk with Charlie will automatically make you smile?

  2. Hmm, I’m looking at Elisabeth’s post- looks like you both had a craptastic day yesterday, while mine was Tuesday. I had a day off yesterday, which was lovely. I hope you enjoy your LONG weekend! I can’t wait to hear all about it : )

    1. I so wish that I could regularly have a week day off! ha. I don’t really want to work 10 hour shifts necessarily…. basically I just wish I could work only 3-4 days and have a couple days off to take care of things, run errands, etc. unfortunately not really possible in my current position! But any time I get a weekday off it’s soooo nice!

  3. I am glad you can take a couple of days off this week! I love taking days off like that. They are so restorative for me! I hope you have a wonderful long weekend and come out of it feeling great! Last night I basically had what you did – a GF pizza and a glass of wine at the restaurant next to my hotel. I had a 10 hour day of meetings and needed the ultimate comfort food! It hit the spot!

    1. Ooh that sounds perfect after a long day of meetings. That’s awesome that there was a good place right next door! And yes, it’s always so nice to have days off as a “staycation”, but since we’re in a fairly travel-heavy season given the boys’ ages, I’m always hesitant to take too many random days off, in fear of then not having enough days off for when we want to travel!! I keep a spreadsheet and track/ forecast my days, but especially because we often take longer trips, I just end up needing so many days for our trips, etc.. But I really need to make a point to at least reserve a few like this for myself. It is soooo nice.

  4. Sometimes you just need a glass of wine (OR TWO) and a pizza! My trick when I had a bad day at work was Metallica and a run! Haha! There is nothing like some screaming long haired white dudes to really make my crap day feel a lot better.

I hope that your day is going better today!
