A possibly confusing typo + correction

Real quick clarification:

Last night I posted VERY quickly and rather late from my phone, and I wrote:

“At a wedding tonight for a friend of Ivan’s son!“

My sister in Ireland, who read my blog post with her morning coffee probably while all my U.S. readers were still sleeping, texted me that I had kind of inadvertently made it sound like I was at a wedding for a friend of Ivan’s son. As in, Ivan has some other (presumably older) son, and his friend was getting married.

WHOOPS!

No. Haha. I do not have a secret stepson that I just casually mentioned in this post, after 3 years of blogging. 😂

Ivan has a (50-year-old) friend. This friend has a (~20- something year old) son. The son got married last night. There. 🙂

I changed it to say: “At a wedding tonight for one of Ivan’s friend’s sons.”

I am not sure why that sentence is causing me grammatical difficulties, because I feel like that still sounds a little odd. But just in case anyone thought I was just casually slipping in Ivan’s illicit extra son, to be clear- I was not. 😉

Reminds me a little bit of the popular meme that illustrates how important punctuation can be:

I hope you all had a good weekend. I have more randomness I could write about tonight, but I’ll save it. I’m tired. It was a late night and Asher had a swim meet all afternoon that I was at.

Currently:

Sitting on the floor by the fireplace typing this post. Tree is up! We still need to put the decorations on it, though. That’s ok. Happy to have twinkle lights in my living room again. 🙂

Daily Gratitude:

I am grateful for the random dad volunteer at the swim meet today who sang a beautiful version of the national anthem. Was not expecting the volunteer Meet Announcer to also be a very talented vocalist! Everyone was like, woah! Who is this guy on the mic?!

  1. Oh i didn’t catch that part. I focused on the mexican wedding part, which reminds me of Argentinian weddings.
    Christmas tree up already? that’s so nice!

  2. I either didn’t read the sentence correctly or you had already changed it, but I was none-the-wiser to Ivan’s “older” son – haha. Grammar can make a big difference.

    Yay for twinkle lights. One of my favourite features of the holiday season FOR SURE.

  3. Hahahaha that’s funny. I didn’t notice that, but obviously your sister did! And that meme is hilarious.
    You have your tree up!!!!!! How exciting. We’re getting our tree Wednesday and it will be decorated Friday. I love this week!

  5. Ha! Writing can be so tricky sometimes! And what a tricky sentence construction. “The son of Ivan’s friend”? All the options are wordy. But I think you got your point across and that’s the most important thing. 😉

  6. Gotta love a secret stepson announcement;-) I struggle sometimes with labels. On the one hand I want to be very clear that I am the STEPmom out of respect to my stepsons’ MOM, but sometimes it makes for very clunky and emotionally distant sentences. It’s taken me 10 years to refer to the boys as “our boys” in conversations instead of “my husband’s sons” or “my stepsons”.
