Broken sleep

So far this week, my sleep schedule has looked like:

Monday night:

  • Bed 11:00
  • Woke up ~4:15 a.m. and couldn’t fall back to sleep. Argh.
  • Total= 5 hours, 15 minutes

Tuesday night:

  • Wanted to go to bed early, but somehow ended up being awake until 11:15 p.m. (!!) Still not sure exactly what happened. Kids kept coming in my room, then Charlie was restless in his crate and wouldn’t settle down… I don’t know. It just didn’t seem to work.
  • Woke up at 2:15 to Charlie scratching around and making lots of noise. Got up to take him outside.
  • 2:20- Back to bed, Charlie back in crate. Whining, restless, panting a bit, not sleeping. What the heck. He normally sleeps through the night.
  • 2:30- Charlie still awake/ whining. Ivan eventually took him out again to go see if he was hungry or thirsty…. ?
  • ~2:45- We’re still awake, Charlie back in crate and still whining. Try to ignore him and keep an eye on the clock. Giving him 10-15 minutes to settle down.
  • Thankfully, after only 5 minutes (2:50 or so) he fell asleep. I finally fell back to sleep, too.
  • 5:05- Charlie awake again! Scratching around, whimpering a little. My alarm was set for 5:15 anyway, so I got up and took him out.
  • Dropped him back in bed by Ivan and of course he then immediately fell asleep like a log.
  • I, on the other hand, went downstairs to start my day, bleary eyed.
  • Total= maybe 5 hours?

Current State: Kind of exhausted.

No idea what Charlie’s deal was last night. He has literally slept through the night over 90% of the time since we got him! He also normally is totally fine in his crate.

Anyway, I’m tired. Today was definitely a “leggings” day.

I did not have the energy to attempt any “real outfits” today. COMFY DAY all the way.

Charlie got all caught up on naps while I worked, of course…. hmph.

Out like a light, paws stretched out and everything. Ha.

I realize I have also gone to bed too late this week, but it seems SO HARD to get to bed early when the boys don’t go to bed early anymore. They’ve been hooked on watching Modern Family in my bed with me before bed, too, which is fun. But you know how that can go… “one episode” becomes “let’s just watch one more….”…..

Their bedtime is usually right around 9:30-10 at the latest, but this week it seems to have slipped beyond that…. oops.

Anyway, did I mention I am tired? Nighty night.

Daily Gratitude:

I am grateful for…ummm… brain so tired I can’t even think of what I’m grateful for tonight. How about… I’m grateful for Christmas movies. Looking forward to watching them this season.

  1. i am tired by imaging functioning with 5 hrs of sleep. Definitely not enough. How you get a good sleep soon. We don’t do TV during the week so it’s not hard to tell the girls to go to bed, around 8pm. But they are much younger than yours so still easy to tell them, especially I need to be in bed by 8pm. 🙂

  2. Ooof. This is brutal.

Hope tonight is calm and you get a very long sleep. I wish I had suggestions but I have zero experience with puppies.

It can be HARD to wind down at night, and I often feel like it’s my only “down” time so then I stay awake so I can enjoy it…but then wind up tired.

Ugh. Sorry, Kae. I promise – as Nicole and Allison would say – that there will be a time after this, but of course you’re exhausted! Your outfit looks absolutely fabulous ❤

    1. Yes, this. I am sort of a rare breed in that I love early mornings AND late nights!!! Which is not actually possible. But once all the hustle of the evening and dinner and clean up and whatever is all done, I do love to just settle into bed to watch some TV or relax…. I often think “I should really just go to bed”, but I don’t actually want to…. even if I’m really tired.

  3. Hi! New reader here (thanks SHU for the rec!) I am loving your posts! You and I have a similar style, although I haven’t tried the LuLu leggings. I love your T-shirt though! Looks dressyish but comfy.

      1. I don’t know! Sometimes WordPress has a mind of its own… sorry!!

Thanks for the comment! Definitely you should try Lululemon leggings… they make a great gift. That’s when I’ve gotten mine, because they are $$ for leggings… but they are SO COMFY!!!

  4. Oh my – that’s like having a newborn baby again! It’s funny how kids affect our sleep, but for different reasons at different ages.
I need to get more sleep myself, I know, but between working late and having to be up in the morning for the kids, 5-6 hours is the norm for me.

  5. Oof. 5 hours is definitely not enough. I can barely function on less than 7 (and I’d ideally prefer more). I hope you can get some shut-eye this weekend 🙂

  6. Ohhh, that’s brutal! New puppy life is hard. I had a senior pup who made nighttime difficult like this – it was hard to get him to go to sleep and then if he woke up in the middle of the night, I had to get him outside to pee as fast as possible! I feel like puppies and senior dogs are alike in that way. Hang in there!
