Life, Workouts

Late night post

Sneaking this in at the last hour! Can’t miss a day in NaBloPoMo.

I just got home from the gym about 20 minutes ago. It’s currently 8:59 p.m.

Inspired by Kelsey on the recent Girl Next Door podcast, I have been really trying to get a little creative with my workout schedule. On their great Early Bird/ Night Owl Habits episode, Kelsey outlined her varied schedule, where some days she’s up super early, while other days she actually goes to an 8:30 p.m. fitness class!

A rotating schedule is certainly not a new concept to me, but for whatever reason, I can get so stuck in thinking my days have to look the same. (e.g. “I always work out right after work” or “I exercise at 5:30 a.m. every day“). I don’t know why this is such a mental trip up for me.

Currently, with my work day breaks being consumed by CHARLIE, and still needing to deal with kids, school, meals, a house, a fulltime job, etc… well, some creativity is needed.

I know I’ve talked about this before, so sorry if this is rehashing. I just haven’t quite figured out a perfect groove yet, but I feel like I’m getting closer. It’s been some trial and error.

Later night Thursday workouts is a slot I think can work well for one of my 3 weekday workouts.

Anyway, that’s all for now! I just heard Asher and Ivan walk in the door from swim practice (he practices 7:30-8:45 on Thursdays) and Ethan wants to watch an episode of Modern Family with me.

Night night!!

Daily Gratitude:

I am grateful for my sunroom. Such a great room, and it has become Charlie’s favorite room, too.

He likes to hang in here. 🙂

  1. I wrote a quick late night post yesterday as well!
I’m one of those people who thinks “workout time” has to be first thing in the morning. But it actually makes sense to look at the week as a whole and figure out what makes sense for each day. I’m still impressed that you have the energy to go to the gym after dinner though! Every once in a while I’ll run after work, but I don’t now… after dinner I want to be sitting home in my pajamas.

  2. Oh, heavens. My workouts happen at all times of the day. I have never figured out how to make it an appointment, so while most of the time I workout after work hours, sometimes I get up early for a class and sometimes I’m desperately trying to fit something in right before bed. The key for me is to KNOW when that’s going to be at the beginning of the day so I can be properly caloried for it. There’s no good that comes from me being hungry when I start a workout.

  3. It is such a mental trip for me, too, to try to alter my schedule. I feel like my best workouts take place after I’ve had breakfast but before lunch… and if I can’t squeeze one in before lunch, it just won’t happen. Which is silly! But also seems like The Only Way due to a bunch of silly factors. Your sunroom is beautiful! Really living up to its name.

  4. I am usually tucked into bed reading at 8:30. Since I go to bed so early, it would be hard to work out after 8pm as it really amps me up and makes it harder to fall asleep. But I think it’s great that you are being flexible about when you will fit the workouts in, especially while your world is turned upside down by Charlie!

  5. Great post! I love how you’re being open to trying different workout schedules. It’s so easy to get stuck in a routine. Have you found any particular time of day or type of workout that works best for you?
