Day 3- Sea Day #1

Sunday, June 25

Our first full day on the ship was our first “at sea” day. So, no island stops or ports of call, just sailing all day. Which means lots of time to just enjoy stuff around the ship!

Beautiful morning:

Somewhere off the coast of Cuba
Our balcony
Water as far as the eye can see

We were all up pretty early (we crossed a time zone, so we woke up at about 7:15 our time, but it was really 6:15). Ivan and the boys and I all went up to the gym. I wanted to do an abs class at 7:30. The actual gym was (surprisingly?) packed. Packed packed packed!! I didn’t know this cruise ship was full of gym rats. 😉

I opted to not do my strength workout and just did the abs class in the studio and then walked on the outdoor track for a mile or so.

Gorgeous views for a walk or run. 8 laps is a mile.

Ivan used an elliptical and the boys did manage to do some strength work around the other people.

Breakfast in the buffet restaurant, the Windjammer. They have a HUGE selection.

We like this table at the way back of the ship watching the trail it leaves in the water.
Spotted a boat on the horizon.

After all that we changed to go to the pool with my nieces and nephew. One downfall to cruises compared to like a big resort… obviously, there is limited pool space. There are several pools on the ship, but still. The main pool area gets very crowded.

Not shown- a long time in pool with my niece, a little dip in hot tub with her after, and just general lounging. 🙂

The littles went to kids club for a while midday, so I moved up to a higher deck to get away from the noise and crowds a bit. Ran into my parents who joined me:

The rest of the afternoon was just spent relaxing mostly. The boys were “around” who knows where most of the day. The ship has lots to do- mini golf, surf rider, sports court, basketball, rock climbing wall, water slides, arcade, pools, hot tubs, teen club, etc. Asher played in a ping pong tournament and did pretty well!

We tried to go to the ice skating rink in the afternoon but didn’t realize we had to sign up in advance and it was full. Oh well- we can go later in the week.

Sunday was a “formal” night, one of two. We decided we would do a bit dressier one night (suit jackets, etc) and slightly less dressy the other formal night. We did our less dressy formal night this night.

Over the shoulder of the professional photographer, shhhh…. Lol

Dinner was French night and very good! Our waitstaff is amazingly wonderful and the dining room food has been quite yummy. I had French onion soup, beef tenderloin and an apple cobbler for dessert.

We went to earlier show with my nieces- well, the boys opted out. It was a dance show, and I guess they wanted to go off and do other stuff.

I thought this show was GREAT! Very high quality entertainment, in my opinion.

Professional quality dancers and singers

They went off to bed then, but at 9:30 there was karaoke in one of the lounges, so my parents, Ivan and I went to that.

It was okay. 🙂 No great singers, and some people picked some dumb songs for karaoke (in my opinion….). But it was enjoyable.

The boys chat messaged us eventually to see where we were and joined us for part of it.

Afterwards the dinner crowds had cleared out, so we snagged a couple pictures in the Promenade area.

Ethan came zooming by on the elevator as we were heading back up which was funny, haha. He did not stay dressed in his nicer clothes more than about two seconds after dinner. lol.

Finally, back to our room!! I sat out on the balcony for a bit, just watching the moon and the waves go by! The boys are loving the independence that comes with being on a cruise. Like I said, the ship app has been a lifesaver for communicating (has a chat feature, since our phones don’t work, of course). We bought two internet packages for the week but only two of us can be logged in at any time. So we are sharing it. It’s been fine- sitting on the internet is not our focus of the trip, anyway. 😉

We had a fun time in Honduras yesterday, albeit too brief. The shore excursion we did worked out okay but wasn’t exactly what we had thought it would be. More on that later. Now we are just about to dock in Belize. Gotta run and get ready for the day!

  1. The boys look so handsome in their nicer clothes! And you and Ivan look great, too, of course! I think the volume of people would be hard for me at times! But there is lots to entertain you guys – especially your boys! And it’s nice that they kind of have free reign of the whole place!

  2. That promenade area is INSANE! So beautiful!
And the boys in their dressy clothes just look so handsome and grown up.
Really interested to see the Belize pics – Have been interested in that place for years!

  3. Looking forward to hearing about your excursions. Those morning shots of the boat wake are gorgeous.

I have never been on a cruise and think I’d like it, but think my husband would hate all the crowds. He loves to wander and explore and think being confined on a giant ship with 1000s of people would drive him crazy?? But I love the idea of being able to do so many fun things in a confined space!

  4. I wouldn’t like the crowds either, but I’m guessing there are places to go where it’s more quiet. You’re trying to entertain kids (some of the time) so you’re ending up in the more crowded places. I would be a little annoyed
that the gym is so crowded, but I like that track! It would be a fun place to run.
I love how the older kids can be independent and wander around the ship. My daughter would LOVE that! Looking forward to more.
