Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!
I’m not really big into V-Day, honestly. It’s nice and all, but I don’t get too excited about it either way. If it didn’t exist, I don’t think I would really care. 🙂 But, it does exist, so we acknowledge it a little bit.
With the amount we go all out for Christmas, it literally takes me until ~4th of July before I really feel in the mood for any other holiday festivities. LOL!!! Not actually kidding, though. Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter….they all get a very minimal nod from me. 🙂 I did hang a heart shaped wreath on my front door! And, I put together these little goodie bags for the boys yesterday (mostly just some candy and little treats, nothing fancy).

Normally in years past I run out to Dunkin’ Donuts and pick up heart shaped doughnuts with sprinkles, etc., but the ACTUAL temperature outside right now is -11 F, with a wind chill of -30. So, I made the executive decision that we will have cinnamon rolls for breakfast instead. Close enough. 🙂
Ivan and I traditionally don’t really do much for V-Day either. I can’t even really remember what I’ve given him in previous years…I think sometimes just little gifts, like his favorite white chocolates or something. I don’t even know! He maybe sometimes gets me flowers, but I think many years we just sort of say “Happy Valentine’s Day” and maybe would have a nicer dinner out sometime during Valentine’s Day week.
This year, I MADE him something!! I got this idea exactly 100 days ago (here– it wasn’t my idea!) and thought it looked really sweet. We are NOT normally a “sappy” romantic couple at all…but I think this is just sappy enough to be sweet without crossing the line into eye-rolling sappiness. 😉

I bought this cute little notebook, and then each day for the 100 days leading up to Valentine’s Day wrote a short sentence listing a reason I love my husband. Some were random, some were based on something that happened that day, etc. Just a brief little reflection.
I REALLY REALLY enjoyed doing this!! I feel like when you have kids, a lot (a lot) of energy goes into making sure your kids are happy, and healthy, and thriving, and successful, and LOVED….. but there’s not always a ton of time leftover to remember that before the kids, there was your spouse!!
Writing this one sentence daily was a perfect way to pause for just a second and reflect on my husband for once, instead of everything else. Not surprisingly, doing this actually made ME feel happier and just more positive overall about him and our marriage in general! Win-win. (What you focus on expands….)
I hope he likes it!! I haven’t given it to him yet. 🙂

I hope you have a great Valentine’s Day, doing whatever it is that you do to reflect for a moment on those you love! ❤❤❤❤

what a thoughtful and cute idea! I might borrow it for our anniversary! i think the moment we pause and really think about the positive side of the other person, we feel grateful to have them in life already! 🙂

That is such a fun and thoughtful gift for Ivan!! I should do this some time!! It’s gifts like this that mean the most! My mom kept a journal of my senior year of high school and it is my most treasured gift!
We did not do anything special for Valentine’s Day. I would like to do a scavenger hunt like SHU does, but this was not the year to take on something extra. I made muffins with Pablo that morning. He loves to bake so it was a good activity for us. I made a ‘red’ meal the night before as I made pork enchiladas and spanish rice. I didn’t quite intend to make a red meal but when it was ready I realized it was all red food and said this is our vday meal!!
