Oh boy, oh boy, the day has come. It’s Election Day here in the U.S.
I dropped off my absentee ballot yesterday (meant to do it sooner, but just didn’t get around to it…). I had never voted absentee before, but decided to request a ballot because it just seemed nice to fill it out and drop it off ahead of time.

Ivan will be voting today, in person, since he never ended up requesting a ballot. I think this is his 2nd time voting in a presidential election as a U.S. citizen. Fun and crazy times to be a new-ish citizen!! 😉
Funny Election Day story!
Quick funny story about “election day” that always pops up in my mind every time it comes around….
So, when I was 5, I got my ears pierced on Election Day. I know this, because despite knowing zilch about politics back then, the very important fact stood out in my mind that it was “election day”.
I can recall sitting on the little stool in the middle of the mall kiosk in the afternoon very vividly. I’m not sure if I maybe then rode along to the library so my Mom could vote after that or what, but it was definitely Election Day… and for a long time after, anytime anyone would comment that I had gotten my ears pierced, I would pipe up with, “I got them pierced on Election Day!” Hahaha.
(I actually just had to look up who was even elected that year. It would have been 1988. Apparently, it was Bush/Quade vs. Dukakis/Bentsen, and Bush prevailed. I guess the specifics of the election were not important enough for my 5 year old brain to remember. 😊)
We can work it out
On a slightly more serious note….I won’t be discussing personal political preferences on this platform, because that is just not what I want to use this space for. I will likely tune in a bit more than usual to the news today, because coverage of elections is always interesting, and I’m sure this year will be NO exception.
My biggest hope is that the whole world can just take a chill pill, no matter what happens. Breathe, people. It’s all going to be okay. I assure you, the sun will rise again tomorrow either way. 😊❤
If you need a distraction from the news, have a watch of this great Beatles video. These guys always knew just what to say. Dang, that’s a good song.
Life is very short, and there’s no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend
…Try to see it my way
Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong
While you see it your way
There’s a chance that we might fall apart before too long
We can work it out
We can work it out

Daily Gratitude:
I am grateful for the right to vote!
I voted by absentee ballot this year, too, but mailed it in. Mn’s tracking system was great – I was able to confirm it was received on 10/2 and would be counted. That’s how my husband voted, too. I am anxious about this election, but I’m trying not to think about it too much which is hard in my line of work because we talk about election outcomes all the time at work and how they might impact the financial markets, etc. I just want to put my head under a pillow! And I”m wishing I could watch the election coverage with a glass of wine in hand – but oh well.
