Hi from Newark… it’s happening!

Good morning! According to the handy dandy “countdown timer” at the top of my screen courtesy of the United app, I have 28:43 minutes until my next flight starts boarding.

As such, I’m currently sitting in a pleasantly uncrowded lounge area eating a surprisingly tasty egg and cheese sandwich with breakfast potatoes.

So far, so good… said cautiously, and quietly, so as to not tempt the Jinx Gods. My day started very early, with a 4:40 departure from our house. Ivan dropped me at the airport at 5, and I was through security by 5:15.

Got my large hot tea, fiddled around on my phone for a little bit and then boarded and off we went. We literally departed at EXACTLY 6:17 am as scheduled.

I also sat and admired my nails for a bit. I’m obsessed with this new version of the ImPress nails I wear! They just released these two tone shades, and I happily picked up this “autumnal” color yesterday at Walmart.

I amazingly almost immediately dozed off, sort of, for close to an hour!!! Yesssss. Sleeping on planes can be very hit or miss, but I slept poorly the night before last and then of course didn’t get to bed early enough for my 3:55 alarm… so I was definitely sleepy. The plane was still dark and though I think some of it was sort of that in between sleep/awake state, I woke up feeling like I’d taken a successful power nap and I feel much more awake now.

I spent the remaining ~30 min starting The Plan, which i impulsively bought on Kindle the other day on a $1.99 special.

The flight went by SO quickly that it made me think, “Why don’t we go to NYC more often?!” The direct flight out of Madison was literally the easiest thing ever and the flight was so short!

And now, on to leg #2 where I will then emerge to meet Elisabeth who will so kindly be waiting for me!!

I want to say, also, that the anticipation of this trip has not disappointed. You know how they always say that the anticipation of an event can actually play a huge role in the overall enjoyment and experience of said event, sometimes even more so than the event itself? I definitely have felt that here! I have so enjoyed the frequent texts with Elisabeth and Sarah saying things like, “1 more week!!” or just chatting about the weather forecast or packing or things to do or which of Elisabeth’s delicious menu options we’d prefer.

The “pre-tripping” chit-chat has been golden and has been so fun!! 🙂

I will leave you with this adorable video of Charlie (sniff, I’ll miss him!) that I took yesterday, asking him if he wanted to go to Canada to meet Elisabeth with me. 😅 (If you can overlook my ridiculous and annoying “baby voice” that I sometimes use with Charlie, the actual video is super cute, lol.)

Ok, time to fly!! ✈️

  1. OOOOH! I hope the second flight went well and you are safely in NS when you read this! I’m very excited for you, and I totally agree with the anticipation factor. I’m getting really excited about my trip to Chicago to see my son- looking forward to every single part of it, including sitting in the airport with a large tea and reading my book.

    Have a great time!!!

  2. I am legit so excited right now. Also, I really wish you could have smuggled Charlie into your suitcase. I have a feeling he’d love some of the local hikes we’ll be doing.

See you (*checks watch*) IN LESS THAN TWO HOURS!

  3. Quick note to anyone reading this who is wondering why I haven’t even mentioned this trip today it’s because I’m not arriving until Friday (shorter but still very sweet trip for me)!!! Hoping my travel goes just as well 🙂
