Holidays

December 26th

I hope everyone had a great Christmas!! I meant to pop in to send Christmas wishes on the 24th or 25th, but just didn’t get around to it. 🙂 Guess I was too busy decking the halls and fa-la-la-la-la-ing.

Throughout my whole life, I always get a little twinge of a sad feeling when I wake up on the morning of December 26th. “It’s over!” The build up of the holiday season is kind of intense, I think (depending on how you choose to celebrate it. I think it has been well-established that we I go all out.).

There’s kind of this sense of…..whoosh. A let down. A mixture of happy nostalgia for the special moments we experienced + an odd sense of relief that the craziness is over and we can soon go back to “normal life” now + a feeling of “oh man, there’s a lot of presents and STUFF that now needs to be dealt with in my house” + a continued sense of coziness and cheer, of wanting to continue enjoying the rest of this holiday week next to the fireplace and Christmas tree.

At some point on the 24th, I always have a few moments where I look around and suddenly think, “Oh! We made it! Everything somehow got done. Presents, food, events, decorations, lights, tree, Christmas cards….check, check, check….” 🙂

The holidays have always been my favorite time of the year, despite some of the stress that it does induce for me. If I had to pick a “favorite” day of the entire year, it would be Christmas Eve, I think.

Daily Gratitude:

I am grateful for yet another wonderful Christmas with my family. For our health, our happiness, our home, and our infinite blessings. SO grateful.

  1. It’s always such a struggle the day after, when half of you just wants your space back in order, and the other half wants to hang on to the warmth and coziness of the holiday. I feel it especially acutely this year, since I don’t have the (wonderful) distraction of continuing to spend time with family. It seems like you’ve found a good balance of embracing the extended holiday while also shifting back to some variation of normal. Enjoy your weekend!

  2. Merry Christmas! I get the post down feeling too. It’s the build up weeks prior to the day and obviously everything that goes up comes down eventually:)
My favorite moment is also Christmas Eve, it’s the peak of expectation!

  3. Paul still has 2 more gifts to open so we have really stretched the Holiday out! He got so many gifts even though he opened the ones from my parents when they were here in early December. We got him 5 things total but he got a lot from my MIL, his teachers at school and the cousin gift exchange! So it’s been good to stretch things out a bit! But I relate to the let down when Christmas is over as there is so much build up! I am glad you had a nice holiday! I’m at that point where I have no idea what day it is between the holiday and being on maternity leave!!

Leave a Comment! And, what are you grateful for??
